CapOne $100 CLI then Successful PC

Back in October I opened a bucketed Capital One Platinum with a $300 limit so I could get back in their good graces after burning them about two years ago on another Platinum that was charged off.

After last month's statement cut I requested a CLI for shiggles and got a $100 bump. My new statement just cut yesterday so this morning I tried the product change link and PCed to the Quicksliver. Immediately after the PC I tried to request a CLI but they said something along the lines of my recent CLI was too recent. Oh well, the 1.5% is better than 0% cashback anyway!

On a sort of sidenote but somewhat related: I should mention that my old charged off CapOne card was paid/settled over 6 months ago, their system was glitched or something and it was reporting a new charge off balance to my reports EVERY MONTH and suppressing my scores. After trying to dispute this through Experian unsuccessfully, I finally called CapOne a week or two ago and offered to pay the remaining $87 just to have it stop updating incorrectly. The rep said don't worry about paying it, then she sent some sort of internal dispute which just updated a few days ago and now my scores have jumped 20-40 points on all bureaus. I'm hoping once this settles in I might see a better CLI but I'll just have to wait and see, I've heard CapOne bases CLIs on 3-month old scores so it might be a while, I'm in no rush.

Congrats on your CLI and PC to the Quicksilver and the score jump! I believe since you did the CLI and then PC'd the card you should be eligible again for consideration on a new CLI in 6 months.

Just to clarify, you are eligible for a CLI 6 months after your last CLI (which was maybe done in January?). The PC is totally irrelevant to the timing of the CLIs.

I did the same type of PC last March and it was a non-event in many ways. CapOne tends to call it a "rewards upgrade." To this day, at the top of my statements, it still says "Visa Platinum Account Ending in...."

Thanks for that info. The CLI was in January. 6 months from now my scores should hopefully be quite a bit better so hopefully a more substantial CLI can come my way, despite already being bucketed!

So, there's good news and bad news on that front. The bad news: For at least the last six months, CapOne hasn't been giving any on-request CLIs larger than $100 on cards with a CL of $1600 or lower. The good news: They could loosen the purse strings at any time and they have recently been giving out some very generous automatic CLIs. Here's a post with a few more details.

Also, FYI, your scores are already strong enough to get the best CLIs CapOne gives out. They care more about other factors, the most noteworthy of which is heavy spend. Good luck!
