Went on a bit of a card binge.

Last November when I got my Sapphire I stopped app'ing for about four months. I was caught up in school and several other things, so I thought nothing of it. Then Citi sent me an invitation to Thankyou Preferred and I figured "eh, what the hell?" so I applied. Accepted. Then I thought "...well, I would really like to just upgrade to Sapphire Preferred" so I apped. Accepted. Then I turned to my AMEX and thought "...well, I would really like an AMEX charge" and apped. Accepted. Then I checked my American Eagle store card and they said I was eligible to upgrade it to a Visa. And... I accepted.

And last night I did the dumbest thing ever and apped for that ridiculous Black Card. To my mixed horror and excitement, I was accepted. I immediately called the number to ask if they could reduce or waive the annual fee, and that was a no-go. The girl let me cancel anyhow with no issues and said I should apply for some other Barclays travel card. It was late at night and I was feeling adventurous, but then I thought about the AF and was kicking myself. :/ And the log on for the Black Card looks really unprofessional, IMO. I thought it was fake for the first few minutes.

Anyway, that was my binge over the weekend. Now I'm returning to my cave. My score is 729, by the by, and I have 21 hard inquiries. Yup. I couldn't believe they approved me but I already have existing accounts with all of them, so maybe they just weren't as wary? Either way, I figured I'd share my experience with anyone app'ing for any of these cards.

Nope, I saw a YouTube video and noticed it was metal and all reason went out the door. I was briefly a part of the esteemed "1%", however. They started me at $5,000. I read some people got $500 limits! What the hell is the point of the card with that kind of limit?

It's the "BLACK CARD" You know? You can flash that thing and tell everyone it's made out of carbon fiber...and also tell them that you have $5 available credit left lol

Truly a credit card for the elite! But the woman I spoke with over the phone was surprisingly helpful. I heard they will force you to pay the AF sometimes and while I could've, I really didn't want to. It's a bit outrageous, considering I can't even put my new yacht on it. Ho-hum.

So did you get stuck with the HP? You should have kept it! You already bit the bullet and was approved! Imagine how awesome it would be to show that around. Besides, you can take that $495 annual fee and spread it across all 10 of your cards. At $49.5 each, you wouldn't even have noticed it!

lol.. I'm kidding, well mostly, I was recently sent a pre-approval/selected black card offer in the mail and, I too, thought about it.

People would've been so impressed by the giant, ridiculous letters that say "BLACK CARD". Oh wow, I must be an esteemed credit card holder! I honestly was thinking that way... ugh, it was 2 in the morning and I was antsy and emboldened by my recent victories.

Damn, you should've taken it. Oh well, I suppose we both weren't meant to be in the 1%.

I called AMEX to get the Gold changed to Premier and it went through fine, but the woman I spoke with asked if I had credit cards with any other major banks. Any reason why? I told her about my Chase and Discover cards. Was it just for research purposes?
