A Few Post-Closing Approvals

My husband and I closed on our first home March 12th, and after having my credit basically locked down throughout the mortgage loan approval process I thought it was finally time to get some new cards.

For a bit of context, I've been on a major rebuilding journey over the last 4 years so being able to purchase a home was a huge milestone. Before this small app spree, the only cards I had were a Capital One Quicksilver One with a $2000 limit, a Chase Freedom Unlimited with a $1500 limit and a Walmart store card. My credit scores are quite a bit higher and my overall profile is much stronger than it was when I got those cards, so I was in a much better position to step it up and aim for a higher tier of cards. My data points and approvals are below!

Scores at time of applications:

EQ: 700

TU: 722

EXP: 721

Approvals:

Chase Sapphire Reserve - $10,000 starting limit

American Airlines Federal Credit Union Visa Platinum Rewards - $12,000 starting limit

Target Redcard - $1,500 starting limit

I'm especially jazzed about the CSR as this was my ultimate goal card. As you can see, my limits before applying were nowhere near 10k, but I've had my main checking and savings with Chase as well as the CFU for years, so I definitely think the banking relationship worked in my favor.

Congratulations on both the house and approvals! Kind of a "hindsight is 20/20" thing but did you look at any 0% APR introductory period card offers? I got a couple when I bought my house last year that helped me stretch out all of spending I did on furniture and other stuff you buy to fill a house.

Yes, great point! We did end up opening a card with Nebraska Furniture Mart as that's where we're purchasing a lot of our big ticket items (new couch, dining table, mattress, etc) and they're doing 0% for 24 months.

Congratulations on those great 3 new approvals and your first home. Congratulations on that milestone. 🥳🥳🥳 How terrific! How great your got CSR your dream card as well as the Nebraska Home shopping card w 0 APR for 24 months.

🏃‍♀️ Great marathon work of 4 years paying off! 👏🏻Offers us all some hope and inspiration. I'm rebuilding now after 2 years ago and last summer not having the credit I needed already established. I get it takes time to build and rebuild and want it starter established when I need it next time and in the future.
