Approved Chase Slate LOW limit

Was approved for only $500, that is nothing to me at this point considering all my other cards are $1500-10,500 I was curious how they are with recon of the initial CL? I don't really want to wait years to have this grow with me, I know that sounds snooty but I just got done closing all my low limit cards because in all honesty I didn't use them becasue of the low limit.

Did you ask for a BT when you applied for the card? Slate is a BT card and so they should give you at least enough credit to cover the BT that you want to do.

I recon'd with no luck, he said he could clearly see I had alot higher limits but that was all they could do and he asked if I wanted to cancel the card or think on it. I said I was going to think on it but I'm leaning towards closing it...I see no use for a $500 limit card at all and I don't feel that it would grow with me steadily enough to use it.

Not sure what to do!

Slate is not really the kind of card foring "growing with you". It is for doing BTs. It is not really useful for anything else. The point of it is to transfer your balances to the Slate, pay them off at 0% and then close it or ask for a PC to a different Chase card. If you are not asking for any BTs, then that could be why they aren't giving you a useful limit.

When I applied for the Slate I listed $6,500 in BTs on the initial application. They approved me... For $500.

I call Recon, and I explain what I'm trying to do, and why I have high balances (just graduated college, moving expenses for new job). After a second HP, she approved me for $7k. My FICOs were probably about 690 at the time.

Slate is not really the kind of card foring "growing with you". It is for doing BTs. It is not really useful for anything else. +1 You can also transfer the $500CL to another chase card you obtain in the future.

thats crazy how they can go from 500 too 7k with just a hard pull. Great job though

Crazy right? It's unfortunate that it cost OP another HP though. If it could have been done, why didn't they just do it in the first place or approve it from a Recon using the original HP? Nothing could have changed during this short amount of time.

Not sure if you noticed, but I'm not OP. My experience occurred in July 2013. I was just relating it as a data point for OP.

As I recall, the actual process was this:

1) Approved for $500.

2) Call recon. They say there's nothing to reconsider since I was approved. They offer to transfer to me to normal customer service to request a CLI.

3) Request CLI with normal customer service. Additional HP. Declined.

4) Call recon regarding CLI decline. Explain above. Approved for $7,000 total CL.

It all occurred within about an hour. They pulled EX for initial app, then EQ for CLI. This was my first time doing business with Chase, and my highest-limit card at the time was a nearly-maxed BofA at $4,500.

I know your frustration (somewhat). I app'd for Slate in October 2013 and got $2,500. Attempted to recon at activation, no dice. In January 2014 to HP to get card to $5,000. Then just this month, app'd for Chase Southwest Visa Signature. Approved $5,000. I included Chase in a 1993 BK which they still remember. I would keep the card as you can do something with it down the road and you already took the HP. Good luck.

Hi !

It ended up working out but not in the normal way, I had a chase freedom and chase amazon and ended up taking thos CL's and putting them on the Slate and 14 months will PC to the freedom again or possibly another card. My CL on the slate is now 2k which will help me BT my walmart, barclay and paypal balances and cut down on some insane interest!!
