American Express Platinum Card® for Schwab

I got my second amex card (BCE) in mid December 2020 and have been hemming and hawing about trying the 3x or app for something else in the amex eco system.. As it were, I also was approaching "Schwab Appreciation Bonus" level of investments. Today that reality kicked in and I decided to app online for the Schwab variety Platinum.

FWIW: my first and only previous amex was a green card I got some 30+ years ago and closed a couple years later without incident -- think I just didn't want to pay the AF since I had numerous free cards from prime lenders.

During the application I got fidgety about not being already logged in to amex and became unsure about the pre-filled fields and such since they appeared to be passed off from Schwab but many remained empty.. Figured that I'd login to amex and try the Schwab app again to see if that changed anything.

Primary concern being segregated residential and mailing and unique email addresses.. Before even testing if having amex logged in made a difference I decided to just call and forget about the automated process online.. as it turns out that was a good thing.

After all the info was collected verbally, the CSR wanted to connect me with someone else.. The principal question was to confirm a legal / residential address. Done. Then they asked if 7-10 days delivery was okay and I mentioned that I am planning to travel before the 11th and if it could be expedited that would be great since I would surly use the card for the event. Done, should be arriving early next week!

Email this morning:

Your new Card is expected to arrive by Monday, 05 April, 2021.

Carrier: UPS Next Day Air

..and all the tracking stuff avail on the amex web portal along with the option to activate an online version of the card now.

The "track your card" link in the email did attempt to coax me into giving up a mobile number after merging the new card data to my account.. Closing that browser instance took care of that .. no side effects AFAIK, so if you don't have a cellphone or simply don't want to add one, bailing out after the new/in-transit card data is added to an existing amex login account is a GO.

Congrats! I've been wanting this card for a while. Can you share which bureau(s) they pulled? I have an IRA, Brokerage and Investor Checking with them and have been eying this card for a while!

Hi,

I was already established with AMEX since Dec, 2020 (Experian inquiry only for a BCE) and have no recent HP inquiries.. So AFAIK this will be an example of approval via a soft inquiry.

I can only speculate that the 'Platinum for Schwab' card would have otherwise produced the HP that was done for the Blue Cash Everyday card.

I have no relationship with AMEX. I'd like to get in with them at one point. I've opened 5 revolvers in 6 months (rebuild) and wanted this card as my next but don't want to waste a HP. My FICO scores are decent, but don't want to risk it. I called Schwab and they couldn't tell me which bureau they pull. 😞

The single HP I have from amex for the BCE back in Dec. 2020 was experian.

As for how Amex reacts to other factors, I have the impression that they aren't anal about things and try to be fair.

The BCE was my second HP in > 24 months, however the Platinum was app'd after ~=>5 assorted HP I'd instigated by my banking relationship activity which included an additional mastercard (TU) and a Discover it (EX) during Jan. 2021.

I don't know if they have any geo-related customs for selecting a CB to hard pull, but FWIW I am currently in Florida.
