Discover U Trippin😂 7K CLI to 40.6K | BoA to 55K, NFCU, Amex

Hey all. Been tied up with work and unable to post in the past few months, but earlier this new year started trying to get SP increases (where applicable) because I slacked for a good while after being busy. I've been trying with Discover to get an increase to no end a few times a month. I wasn't complaining, but it was odd because I never had issues with them giving me increases prior. Had a 33.6k limit and was running between 1to2k thru a month which probably isn't a huge amount. The last increase I tried and got with them was at the end of 2019.

However, I noticed in the last several days, what seemed to me to be a small burst of posts on the threads here of Discover approvals as if something may have changed on their end. It caught my attention enough to hit the button again today, and by far I got the largest increase from them in one try that I can recall in +7k from 33.6k to 40.6k! I think I read someone else get 7k as well the other day. What's interesting is just got denied again the last day of April and haven't used the card since and none of my data has changed that they have. I also noticed there was no slide bar option to accept or lower the amount like in the past. The amount given was the amount. For some reason my dumb phone wouldn't let me screen shot the approval at the time

Also, a few other increases I got for data points in the last month or so:

BoA +5k--> 55k

Amex +4.6k--> 37k (I purposely asked for just under 5k to get an even limit - idk why )

NFCU +4k--> 37k

Now, on to Chase, Citi, & Barclay's I've been setting up for them and have dropped two other cards as a part of this shake up which I'll discuss in another topic. I know Citi does SP, but prior they have declined me like crazy for some reason, so I've held off for a good year or so and am planning on SP (hoping) then HP.

I'm (at least one of the people) that just got a $7K bump out of Discover. I didn't think about the slider thing being gone on the CLI acceptance page until I just read you post and it wasn't there on mine either. I just very recently put a large purchase through the card, so I kind of figured that is part of what opened the vault door a bit, but it is very possible that Discover has made some algorithm changes lately as you hint.

I haven't tried for any CLI's out of BoA since the world got weird, (and I haven't had the link pop up like it used to do every 3-4 months or so...) but quite honestly, I've grown my BoA card well beyond what I could ever fathom putting through a credit card. Amex is at the point where they want tax info to go any higher, and being at just under $50K in exposure with them (not counting POT lines), I'm fine with that as well.

Your scores are excellent, so I don't see you having any issues getting love out of Citi and Chase (Chase will HP you though, Citi might...) Barclays is a crap shoot and I would try them before trying anything that will leave a fresh inquiry.

Congratulations on 7K of Discover love. Just gave it another tri at Discover no love for me. Also called Discover credit operations was told I would get letter in 7 days with reason of not enough use of existing credit line which is 29K just paid off balance of 400 dollar balance. Again nice going.

@ChargedUp yep lol, I do recall you got that nice 7k bump and you were one of the ones that got my attention. Congrats again!

On the DSC slider missing, I noticed it making sure they did in fact give me the increase. I do wonder if they changed something recently to where now depending on your profile, some people may have broken free from being denied. And with the slider missing it seems like they messed around a bit with their online process as well, imo.

My BoA is well beyond what I could've imagined also, and my Amex will soon be approaching the range you spoke of for possible tax info requests.

I'm certain Barclay's and Chase will HP me. I also intend to HP Citi if I can get a SP approval first. What's interesting about these 3 is if I'm thinking correctly, it can possibly work out to where it adds up to 1 pull from each bureau. Barclay-TU, Chase-EXP, and Citi-EQ. But that could be wishful thinking.

thank you @babygirl1256. That's generally my preference. I rarely HP for CLI. There are many many threads with opinions about how to approach HP's. I'm one of the ones who has usually stayed away from them. However, the time has come for me to go the other route and HP on 3 of my cards because they'll never grow with the others if I don't.

@firefox100 Thank you! And sorry it didn't work out for you this time. You reacted the same way I would've though; by trying again after seeing others success. My denial reasons were similar to yours a few of the times; "insufficient experience with existing credit line" or something like that. Not sure how long you've been trying, or when your last increase was.

But keep doing what you are doing because it might just be a matter of time - or like in my case, it was only 8 days from the last denial with zero change in my status. And that's only because that's when I hit the button again. For all I know they may have given it to me if I tried a few days sooner.
