I just received notice of this by email:

CONGRATULATIONS! You have been approved for the PenFed Gold Visa® card:

$8750.00 Credit limit. 17.99% variable APR (Annual Percentage Rate)

I'm kind of in shock. I was expecting a $1500 credit limit so I am very happy. I think they checked Equifax and my Equifax VantageScore is 699. I know they didn't use that but I don't know my Equifax Fico score. I only have 2 other unsecured credit cards with limits of $1000 or higher: First Savings Credit Card with a $1500 limit issued Feb 2021 and Mission Lane with a $1500 limit issued March 2021. I have 4 secured credit cards with Merrick Bank, Self Lender, and 2 local credit unions. I can cancel all those ones now. I still have 3 medical collection accounts from 2016 that show up on my other credit reports but not Equifax.

I just want to share the joy.

Update: PenFed said that my Equifax score (FICO 8?) was 758 on a range of 300 to 850. My Experian FICO is 688 and my TransUnion FICO is 706.

Those credit union cards I would keep just to maintain the relationship and often they willgraduate with some time. I just cold app-ed with Navy for an auto loan (my second one actuallly) and they approved me for $33K because I've been banking with htme for 4 years and have never done them wrong. Scores are all low 600's high 500's if that helps.

Congrats! That's an awesome starting CL, especially since you weren't expecting it.

Do you mind sharing your income? I'm looking to get in with PenFed soon and I have a similar EQ score. Planning on a vehicle ReFi but may try to grab a card at the same time.
