I logged on here the other night after getting the shiny black envelope to check out the validality of the bank and learned that FNBO does prequalifying. Since I was weighing my options for a BT CC, I went on and did the prequalifying and was approved for $11.3k which is what I really need to do what I'm trying to do. It showed me approved for the Evergreen Card which didn't have the same benefits as the invitation offer did but I was willing to apply for it. My browser froze so I couldn't continue with the process.

I decided yesterday to use the invitation code and apply for the rewards card which had the better benefits. It asked if I want to do any BT's and I listed Chase for $10k. I received an email saying it was accepted and then one that said it was approved and will be mailed out in 7-10 days but didn't give me any information about the CL. I went back to the first email that gave me the option of checking the status of my ap plication only to find out that my CL is only $6.3k $5k makes a big difference.

Getting approved is great and all but it doesn't serve my intended purpose and that was pay off my existing account. I would not have applied had the prequalifier had shown a $6.3k CL. I would have taken a chance with another DISCO or tried Citi new DC. I thought showing them that it would be used primarily for BT would have strengthen my app when it fact, it may have hurt it. Now I have to do a partial balance transfer. I could have done a BT to my BOA card which has a larger limit but was trying to do both a BT and decrease my CU by getting a new card with a decent CL.

I would call FNBO. If you completed the application for the Evergreen card and accepted the pre approval offer there should be a record of that on their end. Even if your computer froze before you accepted the pre approval, I think it's worth a call to plead your case. Any CSR I've talked to at FNBO has been very helpful.

Unfortunately my computer froze before I accepted it. I went screen print the offer and it froze there. I had to close the browser to get it to work again of course the offer was gone off the screen. I checked my email to see if they emailed a link to accept the offer. I didn't receive anything so I used the invitation code I got in the mail prior to do the prequalify.

WOW! Thanks Steve. I love you guys. You guys never cease to amaze me. I must admit I'm still a bit green so I didn't even know that recon is a thing. I searched the forum to find out what it is. What is the best way to go about it? Should I wait until I have card in hand or try now? I saw where one people sent a secure message and others called the recon line? Do all creditors have a a "recon line"? per say or is that just terminology? Lastly, Is there a method to the madness based on the creditor? Whether they recon me or not the new knowledge is priceless.

It varies by bank (if they have a dedicated number), so I would ask them to reconsider your starting limit, explaining everything about wanting the increase to do the balance transfer and the pre-qual indicating a higher amount. Generally, a nice phone call gives you the best odds. fnbo is not one I have alot of experience with.

It can not hurt to do a recon reconsideration it will most likly go in your favor. Good luck and lets us know what the out come is.

No Love at all on the recon . Rep said it stands that and it gives a preapproval amount based on what they could see at the time and when they pull the credit, there may be other factors that couldn't be seen with the soft pull. Also, no CLI for six months. Since they approved me for less than I requested for BT, they used the entire CL -$450 for the BT. I'll what happens in 6 months.

The SP gives them ALL the information that an HP does they just didnt want to tell you why it was lower.

Thanks for the confirmation. I did another prequal after they approved the first card and it's approving me for $10k. I don't want to risk another HP with them since they seem a little shady. I considered calling back and trying to get a recon again and reaching another agent but it's probably not worth it. I haven't seen anywhere online that anyone had any success.

Dont call again, use it for 3-4 months and then call in and ask if a SP cli is waiting for you. A CLI request online is always an HP.

I feel for you this is not a good out come, first they did not give you full credit limit that you wher approved for then they did a balance transfer that puts your utilization over 90% of credit limit that is going to hit your fico scores hard and other lenders could do AA. I would try paying down the account to at least 50% of credit line. JMo when I have open new accounts to do a balance transfer I first see what they will approve before I go head and request a transfer to another account so you don't get into situation like this. Thanks. I've learned my lesson. I'm glad to share the experience and take this one for the team. I thought if I included on the application, it would make the app stronger so they could see I wasn't getting it to incur more debt but that may have been what back fired on me. If I find a need in the near future to increase my FICO rapidly, I'll do a 50% BT on FNBO. It kinda of defeats the purpose if I have to pay a fee but atleast I will accomplish what I need to. All is not bad. The bright side is I that have $6.3k increase in AC that will help decrease my CU and some relief from current interest rates.

I know you had a bad experience but in the long run you may be happy with FNBO. They frequently offer low interest BTs which have no end date as long as you pay monthly. And they are a bank that sends BT checks. This means you can take longer to pay off a BT than those offered by many banks. You may or may not need this. I appreciate the option.
