Approved for CSP....holy moly!

Let me preface this by saying that I was an idiot when I was younger. Then I was an idiot again after I was a little older. I decided 4 years ago to pay off my credit card debt and some old collections. The advice and encouragement from these forums helped me tremendously on my Credit Journey. (See what I did there?)

Anyway, my credit card spreadsheet indicated that I had 2 cards hitting the two year mark this month and I would finally be 4/24. I figured that I'd give the CSP a shot since it has such a sweet bonus. I happened to be in a city with a Chase branch last Monday, the day after I became 4/24, and had to do something with my checking account anyway, so I asked if there were any preapproved offers while I was there. Nope. The next day, three of my collection accounts on EQ (same creditor, 3 different dinky amounts) reported updates, added late payments, and reaged the account. Those accounts also were removed from my EX the same day. The day after that, I applied for the CSP because I'm an impatient little bugger.

I expected an instant rejection, but got the email that they needed more time. I figured that was a soft rejection. After looking around for some info, I called the status line and got the two week message. I checked every day and got the same message. I got the same message when I called this morning. I just logged onto the Chase app a few minutes ago and, low and behold, there's now a credit card listed under my bank account. Looks like I've been approved with a credit limit of $16,600. My highest credit limits were $6,500 on my Barclay Arrival Plus, $5,000 on my Discover IT, and $5,000 on a store credit card. I am absolutely astounded. Even more astounding are some data points from the date of my application.

Pulled (NC resident): EX (734), EQ (668)

AAoA: 5 years, 9 month

Longest account open: 21 years (thanks, student loans!)

Number of cards open: 20

Total available credit: $47,600

Utilization: 6%

Late payments: EX- 11, EQ- I don't even know because of the reaging fiasco

(Paid) Collections: EX-1, EQ-3

Unpaid Medical Debt from 2016: 1 on both

Time since last late payment: 64 months

Income: $88,310

I will say that I think that having the checking account was my saving grace. I opened it in 2018 to get a bonus and just never closed it because my employer still required a paper form to change direct deposits and it would have been a hassle to change it back. I just have $500 a month deposited to avoid the fee. Earlier this month, I opted to link one of my retirement accounts and one of my savings accounts as external accounts that have the balances monitored in case that would help. Balance in the two combined is $55,000.

This is probably WAY more info than you bargained for, but hopefully you're as shocked as I am. If there's any other info that I can provide that would be helpful, please let me know!

@Taurus22, my thoughts exactly! Maybe they actually considered the fact that I've been a responsible human being the last 5 years....but I didn't think that underwriters did that kind of thing. 🤔Lol.
