I figure out my problem, maybe it's same as others who had Synchrony close their accounts.

I had 5 or so accounts $70K in credit with them, low balance, never late and decent scores >700.

Since then I have applied here and there for sync cards sometimes instant decline with no hard pull other times cryptic decline message.

Today I got such a decline letter in mail stating it was declined due to a freeze and listed Trans Union.

TU is not locked, none of the majors are.

I figured out it was Lexus/Nexus that was locked so got that unlocked, they said wait 15 minutes and it should be fine.

I applied for Mavis Discount Tire and was ultimately approved so I am back with Sync.

BTW Sync had a really weird verification process.

Preapproved

Apply

Get code call #

They send you to a website you must access on your phone

Takes video of you

takes pictures front and back of license

gives you code# to call back and talk to human.

I am just happy mystery solved.

I didn't bother to call for recon because I don't really need any new cards although Mavis is useful and has promotional financing.

I am just happy to have solved my mystery.

Very nice investigative work. I am a former Systems Administrator | Network Administrator so I appreciate the logical investigation that lead to your discover (oh, it is 'those guys'). Not sure that many people would immediately think of them.

As a matter of interest (to me), what lead you to Lexus/Nexus? In other words, what path did you take?

I'm in IT also.

This is what I know.

I had the following cards (hope I can remember them all)

Lowes
Amazon
Paypal Credit
Care Credit
Car Credit
JCP
Banana Republic

Total credit line with them was probably around 70K

Very low utilizatiion

Never a late payment with them.

I had some of their cards for 5 years.

No real explanation given.

Since then I applied for the Verizon Visa card and received a decline listing Trans Union and saying my profile is locked. TU isn't locked none of the major bureaus are. I searched the forum and saw something about declines if certain reporting agencies are locked so I started calling them and even though Lexus Nexus wasn't listed it was the culprit in my case.

I unlocked it and was able to get a pre-approval and then full approval for Mavis.

It took me a very long time to figure this out.

I guess Lexus Nexus could show if you have filed for bankruptcy or are in being sued? I'm not sure why it matters.

To me it was more about figuring it out in case whatever I did wrong affects other lenders than getting back in with Sync.

Glad you got it worked out. Sync seems to give out big limits in good times, but get skiddish easily.

Congrats! And, nice investigative work. I would have never thought that they'd look into anything other than the three bureaus.

I have to ask. Are you going back to Sync bc they just happen to provide the card that you needed at the tire company, or are you trying to add them to your portfolio? I'd be scared that they'd slash me again.

I do like their Mavis or car credit card. Now that I know why I was cut I don't think there will be a problem again.

I think in the future I might get their Lowes card and Care Credit but that's all. Lowes when I move as they have nice perks.
