Amex Gold and Apple Card

I hit a major milestone for me today...It all started with Credit Karma, ew I know...

TLDR; Had bad credit. Worked my way to Ok cards, then one high limit card. Forgot about myFico and credit journey. Came back randomly. CK said I had outstanding odds for Apple Card. Got the Apple Card. Tried AMEX preapprovals, got the gold. A couple more CLI on existing cards.

I was checking my phone for old apps/apps I don't use and I came across the CK app. I was going to delete it but decided to log in and see if my scores had changed any. Last time I had logged in was maybe a year ago. My scores had raised 56 points! I was now sitting in around 683. A few years ago I was under 600's! I was getting denied for secured cards! Once my credit improved a bit I ended up getting a
Discover IT secured that eventually graduated to a $1250 unsecured
a Capital One Platinum that has stayed at $500
a Capital One Quicksilver that was at $500
NFCU AMEX $500
NFCU Cash $2500
and then one day while I still in the low 600's like 2 years ago
NFCU Flagship $10K

So after I got the flagship, I stopped obsessing over credit cards and credit limits and all this other stuff and I just went about my life using my credit as needed. Today when I looked at CK and seen that my scores went up , I looked at the card recommendations and it said I had outstanding odds for the Apple Card. For some reason, I decided to see if AMEX would give me any preapproval offers. I've always wanted an AMEX Gold. Well, guess what came up? Platinum, Gold, and BCP. I applied for the Gold and got it! I was going nuts! AND I got the 75,000 bonus points offer!

Then I rememberd the Apple Card and figured I would try it since the Gold card seemed harder to get so I must be approved for Apple Card. Got approved again! $4500 SL!

Ok well I don't need any more cards...How about a CLI? Boom, Discover went from $1250 to $2700! Let's try Capital One...went from $500 to $750. Ok not the biggest but still a CLI nonetheless. Tried a CLI on my NFCU cards but they went to review. Oh well, can't win them all! Overall, it was a good night! Thank you to all the members here for constantly inspiring me on my credit journey. I hope you all get every SUB and approval that your heart desires!

Congratulations! I think these stories are just amazing. It really shows that people (myself included) can make that "comeback". I think credit karma is perfect for what it does and it's free! Now credit sesame needs some work. Also, so many providers are doing score updates monthly.

I just wish that ALL providers outlined their requirements for a product succinctly. NFCU/PenFed and some smaller issuers do a decent job however if those "mysteries" didn't exist, this addicting forum would be "lessened" .

I think that CK, sub-prime cards, etc. all serve a purpose. Today, we see that purpose in your approvals!

Yeah absolutely. I do pay for a service that monitors my credit but CK is ok for what it is. I was never taught anything about credit so I had to learn it myself but by the time I started doing that, I had already messed mine up. So I had to dig myself out of the hole and before I could even start building. Thankfully, most if not all of my baddies should be off my reports now so the only way to go is up from here! Congrats on all your cards too, it seems you've been able to make quite the comeback yourself!

Absolutely, I actually had something called a Horizon store card? I think? It was really bad, I paid $25 a month to have a $500 CL on their store card for their own webstore that I never used. To be honest, I didn't fully understand that I was signing up for a "store card" at first and then I forgot I even had it. It did report to the credit bureaus which was good cause I think that's how I ended up getting the Capital One Platinum and Discover IT. I've long closed that Horizon card but it did get the ball rolling for me when nobody would give me a chance.
