AMEX Gold Approved! What's Next? 🤔

Hey everyone!

After an approval for the Ollo Optimum card/invite (thread here), I also thought deeply about my upcoming spending on restaurants/in general with a move to a new city coming up, I also applied to an AMEX Gold (via Resy) after a pre-qualification and...got approved!

This is thanks to the forum, my spouse who added me as an AU on a Platinum, and makes me feel so good about my comeback to AMEX after getting charged off years ago, learning from my mistakes, and now being in a position in life I am grateful for.

But...as spoken to on the thread, I wanted to ask with these two approvals (both HPs, EXP/TU)...should I apply for anything else?

So, here's a quick breakdown:

Scores & debt:

FAKO: 720 ish, except for a 680 on Experian due to a paid off collection

Student Loans: $9k, though paused and can pay off any time

Other debt: None! All paid

Cards:

Capital One Quicksilver $3.3k (up from $2k, came in March after 3 other rejections)

Apple Card $1k (up from $200, approved in August, most recent prior to today)

Ollo Optimum $5k (new, coming)

AMEX Gold (new, coming)

CSP $12k AU

AMEX Platinum AU

BoA Cash $10k Rewards AU

Chase Amazon Prime $7k AU

So as you can see, I am now waaaaay over 5/24, and 4/24 without AU. I do have a mail offer for the Wells Fargo Active Cash, though that makes less sense considering that is just 2% CB compared to the 2.5% CB of the Ollo Optimum.

I am interested in the X1, which I had literally not heard about until yesterday (and now want), but I know that's a wait list. I am also interested in a Marriott card since I have been using it with AMEX Platinum's Gold upgrade, though I know two are Chase cards are one is an AMEX.

I did not get a Discover pre-approval, though I'm not too tempted by it, either. So the question becomes: Should I garden now and apply after the student loans are done, or is there another card out there to consider? Maybe one of AMEX's credit cards?

I got my X1 card last week and already liking it!

You can get an invite code from an exciting X1 card holder to bypass waiting list 😉

I recently acquired this card via the resy offer also.

Is there any indication of the resy offer among the online and/or physical docs for you?

I recall having a SUB progress bar on a previous amex card but don't see anything for the Gold card on the amex website...

I believe it was late April or early May next year...the thing about it is that I was at the 5 year mark with it (unpaid), then I realized paying it "renewed" its status on my credit report which I had questioned for a while? But now it seems I'm getting double pulled for these new cards and I seem OK!

Gotcha. I was asking because Experian does early exclusion and I didn't know how close you was to it dropping off your report. If you know what that is great!! I just like to make sure someone knows that way they can get it off asap and it shortens their road to a clean report. ☺️

Nah. Being unpaid hurts you worse than being paid. It may have added a little time but it has to come off eventually. Once you hit 3 months before it is to fall off call them and ask them to remove it.

I called today and inquired about the card, amex confirmed the resy parameters (75k MR / 6mo spend) and so forth were all active for the account.

In regard to the earn progress meter I asked about, having seen that on another amex card offer, the answer was that the progress widget on the website is not used anymore.

I got spoiled by having the handy progress bar / days remain countdown stuff from before. Ah well. Perhaps it'll reappear sometime in the future. It was a nice touch.

Congrats on the Gold card approval !

It is a really useful card for every day spend, as you will find out. If you are coming back from a previous AMEX charge off, I'd be inclined to just treat this card carefully, give AMEX a chance to see your charge / payment ability, and let them get comfortable with letting you back in. I would not app any second AMEX card. You have the spend for the SUB to get through, and it's going to be earning you a lot of MR points to combine with the Platinum.
