NFCU cashREWARDS CLI

Good morning, fellow myFICOers!

So, I have requested a modest CLI for my cashREWARDS Visa with NFCU. I initially had a $9,600 Credit Limit. I was more than happy with that. I have had this card for some three months now and have put a fair amount of spend on it ("fair amount" relative to my spending habits).

I decided - after the CLI from Discover - that I would like to increase the Credit Limit for this card. Mostly, for maintaining my credit utilization (and, to be fair, I have been using AZEO and use the Discover Card for the "except one" card.....I would not recommend using this CC as the "except one" card...something about FICO not liking the one card with a balance to be a card from a Credit Union). Well, in the event that something does change and that it is necessary for this card to report a balance (because Finances over FICO, right?).

So, I accessed my account on-line and put in the request for the CLI to $11,000. Granted.

Again, no biggie. And I am well aware of how generous NFCU is. But still.....

Moving in the right direction and sticking to my plan.

But dont leave possible credit on the table. Know the trends, right now Navy is handing out max 8k on cli requests so you should use that as a baseline. They will either approve, counter or deny. Dont feel bad about asking for bigger amounts, they are really good in helping us with our needs

Yes, sir! Very good point! NFCU is indeed very kind. I asked for the modest CLI because - and maybe my thinking is skewed, but it makes "perfect sense" to me (and I am learning all things credit so maybe this is faulty thought process) - I would like to be in a position in some three or four months to request a CLI with my AMEX BCE. I do not make the money that I once did (and am soooo dang much happier as a human being, I am much more kind now....which is SUPER important to me. I want to be a really good role model for my two teenaged boys) so I dont want to be viewed by AMEX as being overextended (total available credit limit of all CCs vs Income). I - as mentioned - make strong use of AZEO. This - for me - works really well and keeps me focused.

Am I overthinking this? I would not be odd to be accused of overthinking something (I might just have a strong affinity to that type of action)!

Dont worry . You do whats best for you for sure!. Patience is a virtue lol and we could all use more of that even in the credit world. One thing to note, is in regards to Amex, if you have with Navy or are considering it, the Navy Amex has nothing to do with Centurian Bank Amex nor does it affect any cli requests with Amex. Just fyi.

I think if one manages their credit cards responsibly, it wont matter too much if your limits are more than your income. Sure it can get one in trouble with more room for debt but also can be good to have available credit if needed. Again, the amount of credit you have or want is a personal choice. Glad to see you choosing happyness over money, i would gladly do the same.

Yes you're overthinking it, but it's never wrong to do what makes you comfortable, as long as you're not hurting someone else. If you're more comfortable asking for a modest CLI than you would be going for all the marbles, then that's fine. Some folks are more uncomfortable thinking that they might have 'left something on the table'.

Imagine that? Ha! Ha! As mentioned, I do have a propensity for that. At this point in time, I am going to stick to the plan - crazy or not. Last year I stuck to the plan and then had a series of one-offs (which is what happened in 2020 as well) and I ended up being a bit disappointed with myself for not sticking to the original plan. And was not "rolling with the punches".....was just getting greedy.

Anyway, thank you for your comments. Always appreciate reading your posts (especially when it is a reply to something that I have asked).

December, 2019 - Secured Discover, $200

April, 2020 - Secured Discover, $500

August, 2020 - graduated, Auto-CLI to $1,500

August, 2021 - CLI to $3,000

December, 2021 - CLI to $4,000

August, 2021 - opened with $9,600 Credit Limit

January, 2022 - CLI to $11,000 Credit Limit

I also have the NFCU SSL loan ($500 @ 16 months), which I opened one month after applying for and being approved for the cashREWARDS cc.
