AMEX BCP Approval - After Additional Identity Verification!

All -

Finally approved for an AMEX card again (BCP, SL $1K @ 12.99 APR) after what's been roughly 20 yrs or so. The application required some additional verification, but it was a breeze (fraud protection). I'm not concerned about the SL, as I've heard CLIs after 6 - 12 months are common. This was more about getting off the eternal "bad-boy" list, lol.

@TryingtoBeLifeGoals The CSR wanted the typical PII (i.e. DoB, physical address, email, phone, etc.) but additionally they wanted to verify the income I submitted from the app...along with a callback.

The callback was 2-fold: The CSR first said they needed to check that the phone number I reported was registered to me (or my address) which put me on hold for a couple minutes. Then she told me to hang up and expect a call from AMEX in 30 secs or less. I did...then I got a call from their 800 number...afterwards my account was approved. Once complete, I registered my account online at (www.americanexpress.com) and was able to see everything she told me: CL, APR, Rewards, Member Status...

why were you blacklisted by Amex for 20+ yrs?? Did you owe them that you never paid back?

Yeah @Anonymous after college I had several collections (and a charge off or 2, lol) and unfortunately I burned AMEX on a Gold Card for about $2K. Over the years, I've worked hard to fix my credit mistakes and have since bought 3 houses, at least a dozen cars, and have decent credit lines from various banks. It was just AMEX that kept denying me (no matter what my scores, income, or UTIL) and it became an obsession of mine to get back into their good graces again. Like a wayward child trying to please a parent 🤣🤸‍♀️

I didn't need the extra card or CL, I just wanted to get off their blacklist. Perhaps in the future I'll apply for one of their charge cards (Gold? Platinum?) But for now I'm taking a break 🌴🌺
