Super low limit, but approved for US Bank Cash Plus

Starting up CC applications again now that my mortgage application has gone through (Only 1 application in the past 2 years). First on the list was US Bank Cash Plus. Given the reputation for difficult approvals, I figured I should try it first. I did not get instant approval, which was not unexpected. I have a fraud alert set up from last year, and I got a denial letter pending identification confirmation. Called to confirm and was approved within a couple hours, but for a meager $500 limit. Not a big deal since I plan on using it only for utilities and streaming, but I was expecting higher. Will have to see if a CLI down the road will be worth a HP.

Cards: CapOne VentureOne $17,500, Citi DC $13,800, Chase Amazon Prime $10,000, CSP $25,000, CFU $20,000, Chase WOH $15,000, Amex Gold, Amex Plat, Barclays Jetblue Plus $13,000.

Experian FICO 8: 798

Income: +/-150,000

No derogatories

CC HP 1/24

Mortgage HP 2/6, 4/12

AAoA: 3.5

Oldest Card: 10 yr

No prior relationship

Grats on the Cash+ approval. Most of their CLIs are SPs, I have never been HPed when asking for one. Welcome to the board

@JZK welcome to the forums and congrats on the Cash+ approval.

You can try reaching out to the underwriting department within the next day or so to see whether they can reconsider the initial limit. It's worked in a variety of cases, but just keep in mind they will likely HP again.

Often times it may be worthwhile just depending on your specific situation and if you anticipate some larger expenses + would like a higher limit for the sake of flexibility.

USBank used to be notorious for issuing $500 Cash+ Visa Signature cards, at one point it was almost a meme here on MF because there were so many such reports.

Congrats on the approval! That could have easily been a denial considering the creditor, so be happy even with the low limit.

Given your other limits, that does seem low. Congrats on getting approved, hopefully it grows quickly to a more reasonable amount. In addition to a CLI, you may be eligible for reconsideration.

US Bank as you heard is definitely stingy to those it has not met yet. Rest assured that from here on out they are only going to get more warm and friendly. At this point they are willing to put a small risk on you since you cleared the tests but that does not just make the fraud alert disappear. The $500 is their way of saying we trust you to do the right thing but not a lot. This is definitely one of those lenders that is strict but justified. In time you will see why their way is the best one to have open.
