AMEX BCP Approval

Hello All!

Since I started my build, I always have had an eye to get an AMEX of my own. I have been an AU on my parents Gold Card for a while now so I hadn't really had a need for a account in my own name. I have recently been informed by the Kroger attendant that my Gold card was declined..... That's weird, turns out my parents found out about the limit feature of the account and now I have a limit. I normally pay my individully from the app and I decided to see if by some odd chance I was pre-qual. To my surprise I was for Gold, Plat, and BCP, I do not know why I would be for the Plat as I am a full time college student making 20k a year at Home Depot and my income doesn't support. I decided to go thru with the BCP application, I have done an one other Amex application of my own and it was declined but this time they were asking to send a text to my phone for verification (HMM.... thats new) 1 minute later I was approved and the account was in my online profile. My SL is a bit sucky (1K) but that is plenty for my as I am trying to cut down on my spending. I will enjoy the $300 sub, and the Grocery, and Gas as it is crushing me in my state right now.

Congratulations on your BCP!! That card is very enticing. I'm playing with the idea of closing my Gold and upgrading my BCE to the BCP at the end of the year. As long as you are spending enough on that card to earn more cash back than what you would otherwise earn with the same spend on the no annual fee BCE, I think it's a fantastic card! Using the grocery category as an example, you would need to spend $3,200 per year on the BCP to get more cash back (after accounting for the annual fee) than you would get on the no annual fee BCE.

Example: (With $3,200 on groceries per year, BCP makes more sense)

BCP: $3,200 x .06 = $192 - 95 annual fee = $97 net cash back

BCE: $3,200 x .03 = $96 cash back

Another example: (In this case, BCE makes more sense)

BCP: $2,500 x .06. = $150 - $95 annual feee = $55 net cash back

BCE: $2,500 x .03 = $75 cash backup
