Approved - Chase United Explorer

I have the Chase IHG card (since 2017). The limit is $2k. I've Tried 3x in 5 years to get a CLI. Always get declined. I applied for the Chase United card in 2019 and was denied. Last night I rolled the dice again. I almost applied for the Amazon Chase card because I got prequalified with a 19.24% APR, but my spouse convinced me to go for the united card again. After an hour of back and forth, i did (3/7/22 at 11:52pm). No immediate approval because I have a fraud alert on my credit report. I'm used to this by now... Called the status line around 9:30am. It said "we received your application. you will be notified of a decision in writing within two weeks." I called the line again at 2pm-ish and it said the same thing. At 5:30pm I got a call from a super nice/chill Chase rep. They needed to verify that I applied. The pandemic must have changed their procedure. This time i didn't have to run to the other side of town to go to a branch with my ID documents (only to get denied). Instead, they sent a text. I confirmed the code. And the rep said "Congratulations. You are approved. Your credit limit will be $14,500 and you will receive your welcome packet in 3-5 days." In shock, I logged into my account and sure enough the card is there and I could see the limit. Below are some data points for the community:

-EX and EQ pulled

-EX (707); EQ (702). Both reports show one account that has two 30 day lates and one 60 day late. These lates occured in 2016. So 8 more months and I will have a clean report. Those are my only dirties.

-2/24. This united card will make 3 new credit cards opened in 24 months

-2 inquiries within last 9 months.

-Overall utilization showing on EX and EQ is 31%

-Utilization on my IHG Chase card at time of application was 60%

-active fraud alert

I am still in shock about the approval. and even more shocked about the starting limit. This will make Chase my second highest credit line. I current hold: NASA Platinum ($15k); Chase United Explorer ($14.5k); NFCU ($11k); Penfed visa rewards ($10k). Then i have smaller lines like IHG ($2k); Discover ($2.8k); Amex Delta ($2k). Hope these data points help.

My next goal is to get Delta to $5 or 6k. Amex has been just as stubborn to me as Chase. Amex did crack last August and gave me a $1k increase for a whopping $2k limit, lol. Maybe next time i can get the full 3x CLI.

Contracts on your United Explorer approval! I was approved for mine on Monday, and it's out for delivery with UPS right now (I called to request expedited shipping). I have old lates, as well. They denied my application for this card in the past, as well so I'm happy to have another Chase card. Getting CLIs on my Freedom Unlimited is like pulling teeth...

Congrats on the new Chase card!! I'm willing to bet that you'll have more luck with the cli once your reports are clear of any lates. Who knows though - sometimes I wonder why would they issue a new account with a large limit as opposed to growing an already existing account? Makes no sense to me.

@PullingMeSoftly Thank you so much for mentioning the DashPass. That benefit alone will save me hundreds of dollars on fees.
