Chase Freedom Flex DP - Denied then approved on recon

So even though it was only about 5 weeks from my last application and two approvals in 10, I decided not to wait and apply for another card, as the SUB for the Cash+ will be met next month on utility payments, and the SUB for the Venture X looks ahead of schedule.

The next card on my list is the Chase Freedom Flex. The category through Jun 30 is streaming and Amazon, and I have a number of items I was going to purchase this month, so the timing made sense. I figure that I should have a pretty good chance, despite the recent applications, but I was wrong. I applied Apr 15, and was instantly denied. A hard copy of the denial letter takes 7-10 days to send, however, since I have a Chase account, it was posted to my statements page immediately. The reasons for denial were:

Deliquency or other derogatory relationship with our bank

Insufficient balance in deposit and investment accounts with us

one or more recent requests for new credit

too many requests for new credit in the past 2 years

I called Apr 18 (the following Monday) and spoke to an agent, first to clarify the items, and to ask for reconsideration. The deliquency was a charge off that occurred during the 2008 crash, but it dropped off my credit report years ago, maybe 5 years or more. Apparently they keep records for longer. Every other Chase card I applied for, I had a savings/checking account with them, however, I switched to BofA 2 years ago. Neither of the last two are related to 5/24, just they didn't like how many recent applications I had.

Eventually, they approved my application if I moved credit from a different card without increasing my total limit. They let me choose the card and the amount, and I was approved. I didn't have to bring it up, the rep offered it as an alternative without prompting.

One other thing of note, they referenced the credit score metric they used: "Card Acquisition Risk Score V2", source: JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A., Score: 842 (out of 900). I did have some hard pulls, Experian and Transunion, I think.

Cards: CapOne VentureOne $17,500, CapOne Venture X $30,000, Citi DC $18,800, Chase Amazon Prime $10,000, CSP $25,000, CFU $20,000, Chase WOH $15,000, Amex Gold, Amex Plat, Barclays Jetblue Plus $13,000, USBank Cash + $500.

Experian FICO 8: 752

Income: +/-150,000

No derogatories

CC HP 2/3, 3/12, 3/24

Mortgage HP 2/6, 4/12

AAoA: 3y2m

Oldest Card: 10 yr

I'm applying for the CFF tonight after my friend sends his referral link. I don't think I'll be denied with my 4 Chase cards and their CLs, but it's good to know I have a shot at recon if they deny. I'd give them as much as I can from my CF's CL.

Congratulations nice going on your recon. Yes Chase keeps records for very long time, I burnt chase about over 20 years ago and if I call ther customer service number they still recognize my home phone and ask for the last 4 digits of account they don't for get.
