CLI tri-fecta! Boda bing, boda BAM!

Good afternoon, fellow myFicoer's! Hap Hap Happy Sunday!

So, I have mostly been gardening lately (since October, 2021) but I have been keeping my eye on the "appropriate dates" for CLIs. That is the one area where I will play a little bit of this credit game. And, this old man is not 100% sure if I already posted about the first two (so, if I have, please forgive me....not trying to flex here).

I recently was feeling a bit confident (man, that does not happen all that often!) so I hit the love button in my AMEX account. Yes, that button is back (well, was for me....) so I did not need to use "that trick" thingie! LOL

I intentionally did not go for the coveted 3x CLI......did not want that. I have a modest CL of $4,000 with the BCE (Blue Case Everyday for those maybe new to the credit game or new to the AMEX ecosystem) and requested a $1,000 CLI.

Granted!

So, that was a nice feeling. I will say, for me and my humble situation, I am really mc-loving the AMEX ecosystem. Looking forward to the day when I can add a card to my collection (but it will have to make sense and not duplicate what I already have "in my wallet"! Hey, that was funny in my head....don't judge me! LOL).

For those "Data Nerds" (and I 100% count myself as one of you) my last CLI with this AMEX card was back in January/February (where I went from $2,000 to $4,000) and I put roughly $600 spend on this card each month.

So, based on the love from AMEX I decided to roll the dice with my old budy, Discover. I have the Discover IT card and have had it for some time (some 2.5 years). Still in the rather humble zone with respect to CL but we are building.....

So, Disco offered a $500 CLI so I said, "Yes, sir! Thank you very much".

For those "Credit Nerds" who like Data Points (again, I very much consider myself to be in that group) I would like to add that the last CLI that I had with Discover was back in December 2021/January 2022 (where I went from $2000 to $4000). I put roughly $450 spend on the Discover Card each month.

The tri-fecta was most recently completed (and this is the reason for my post right here today) with NFCU!

I have had the cashREWARDS card since August, 2021. For those of you familiar with NFCU, they have a strong reputation with giving higher than usual (well, that is all relative, right) Starting Credit Limits and are, generally speaking, more friendly to CLIs.

I mistakenly recalled the last CLI that I had with this card (thought that it was very very beginning of December, 2021.....but it was actually middle of January, 2022) so in my head the math was correct (with NFCU the going thought process is that you need to wait six months....I believe some people use 181 - 190 days as their guideline.......there is a really good "All About NFCU" post somewhere...) so I access my NFCU account and clicked on the request button.

I added the amount (with NFCU you do not add the desired CLI - so, say $3,000 - you add the total amount that you would like the Credit Limit to be.....so, say you have a CL of $11,000 and you would like to be at $14,000 you enter "$14,000" here. I mention this here because that seems to get a lot of people). Within about 15 seconds I received the "we will look into this and get back with you" message. BUT, it was not the standard "nope, we will write you in 7 to 10 days and tell you why" message. It was different.

So, I looked at my records and discovered that what I remembered (last CLI being back in the beginning of December, 2021) was wrong....the last CLI was actually in the middle of January, 2022. Well, dang it! I acted a little bit too soon! So, I called NFCU and asked if the CLI request could be called back (in other words, cancelled) because my memory dis-served me here and I asked prematurely. The representative was a very nice, friendly, and kind young man and we had a few laughs in between the business side of this phone call. Anyway, he told me that the request would in fact be denied because I did not fulfill the time requirement between CLIs. And that there was no possibility of a hard pull (one of the things we discussed....which I brought up because I was now on the phone with a representative discussing a CLI....and that aforementioned NFCU post does suggest that it is best to do these things via your account as speaking with a representative will most likely result in a Hard Pull). So, I thought that situation was done....and that I would just have to wait until the middle of July - or so - to make that CLI request.

And a couple days later I did indeed receive the expected letter in the mail with the "recent CLI" reason for the "sorry, but we can not honor this CLI request".

Well, long story short (I think that I might be FAR TOO DEEP INTO THIS for it to be ".....short"!) I just accessed my NFCU account and guess what?

(whispers in a soft voice....."if you guess 'you did get a CLI' then you would be correct".....)

My Total Credit LIMIT for the cashREWARDS card jumped from the previous $11,000 to $13,500. So, a nice $2,500 CLI. I will take it!

Whew! That was long winded. I think I need to go take a nap now! Ha!~ Ha!~

Muchas gracias! I always like to add "mucho/mucha/muchos/muchas" when I say things in Spanish. It means a lot to the native Spanish speakers (OMG - yes, I went there.....Dad jokes ALL DAY LONG)!

Thank you. I like to add a little bit of 'spice' to things. All things FICO can be a rather dry conversation....at least, to me. So being myself and writing just like I speak! What really surprises me is that I actually went for it. Pulling the trigger is not something that is all that "natural" to me. Working on that. Thank you, again!

Thank you! It is pretty awesome, actually. Even with the rather humble CLIs, I am grateful for the CLIs. Now if I could just get Capital One to show some love. I am going to focus on that card (the QuickSilver) at the end of year. Maybe spend my way to a favor? Meaning, some of the spend that I put on the Amex BCE and on the Discover IT throw their way.....see if I can "bribe" them. I have requested a CLI once or twice and always get the "you do not spend enough to warrant us giving you access to more" answer. That's all good. I can - and will - change that (just not yet....one goal at a time, right?).

Thank you. Working on this. Was a "less than" credit consumer in a previous life. I would not agree at all with the axiom "ignorance is bliss". Heck no it isn't. Its a PITA! Working on that....so, yeah - I did actually earn them (via good habits and positive actions). Thank you, again!

Thank you! Thank you! It is wierd for me to ask for CLIs but one thing is for sure....if you do not ask, you will never receive (well, there is that thing called "auto-cli".....but my accounts are typically not in that bucket...not yet, anyway).

Yeah! It surprised the heck out of me. All good! A pleasant surprise is a nice thing. I will take it. And, I will not get the dates mixed up in my head next time.
