Discover It (Student) and Fingerhut Instant Approval!

I've gotten turned down for Discover before and was reluctant to try again after many many months of not submitting a single application to them but I decided to take another crack at it since I have more credit history than when I did about 7 months ago and I was instantly approved online. I have no idea how much the credit limit is but for the Fingerhut credit account, I got around 600 dollars without any problems. Probably not really gonna use that one too much, just a small purchase every couple of months and paying that off in full because I heard they are really generous with credit limit increases so that will also help with my utiilization hopefully depending on if they report to all three credit bureaus or not.

I also applied for a Wells Fargo Cash Back student card and a regular WalMart card and waiting on the statuses of those. I don't feel as optimistic about those to be honest even though I have a checking account with WF. They've turned me down before too because of a lack of history a long while back and a charge off on an old joint account I had with them before that I paid off in full and that they've noted in their database. I'm very satisfied and really happy that overall utillization will go down significantly because of this.

I currently have a Citi Forward Card for 1000 dollars I've had for about 7 months and a Capital One Journey Card for 500 dollars which I got more recently and will probably go up to $750 in its credit limit in a few more months. I can't wait until that card gets here so I'll be able to finally check my FICO score for free. Last time I checked it, it was close to 660 and I'm currently working on getting that up. I think for now I feel pretty satisfied with the amount of cards and credit I'll have and continue to work on making payments on time and keeping my utilization as low as possible. Maybe in about six months-a year, I'll take a look at cards like Chase Slate, Amazon Store card, Bank of America, Capital One Quicksilver One (just to be on the safe side), and one of the Barclaycards and go from there and work my way up to ideally a Chase Freedom card or any other card with really good rewards and lower APR.

Update: I just called Discover and they told me I got a $500 dollar credit limit. I will be calling WF and WalMart today to see what they have to say. Neither one was an immediate online decision like Discover and Fingerhut were and WF because they needed my college information. Crossing my fingers at least one of them were als obe approved somehow but I think I got a lot more of an increase to my credit limit than I was expecting.

Another update:

I underwent a verification process with WalMart over the phone and I was approved for a $900 dollar credit line! I'm also really really surprised because I thought my number of inquiries would have hurt my chances even though some of them are about a year to a year and a half old so yeah. Either way, I am more than happy about this. It's just really weird how I couldn't get a credit line increase with my Citi card but yet could get all these cards with no problems. Wells Fargo I haven't had as much luck with yet. They said I was denied because of the charge off amount but I told them over the phone that the charge off had been paid a long time ago, so we'll see what happens there.

Congrats, I am not yet able to apply for those cards yet but can not wait to have the credit to do so. I am learning so much from these formuns. I did a shopping cart trick and was approved for credit with express. My goal for an American Express! But I have a lot to learn from you guys. Enjoy the card

I decided to apply for one last card just in case Wells Fargo decides to be stupid and still decline my application and went with another GE Capital card. The Amazon Store card. Instant approval for a 600 dollar credit line.

Wow. Definitely not applying for any more cards for a while. I've never had this many approvals in one day ever. The 4-5 inquiries and the three point drop in my Vantage Score were worth it here and I owe a lot of thanks to Citi for giving me a chance to build my credit so I'd be eligible for these cards. Gives me much greater confidence that by the end of the year or early next year, I can try again with Bank of America and get that settled.

I calculated about $4,100 total in terms of my overall line of credit and with the automatic increase in the Cap One card credit limit it will amount to 4,350 total, basically almost quadrupling my current limits.

One last major update.

I called Wells Fargo today and big shock, they approved me for a $700 dollar credit limit for their college card just yesterday. It was a really big pet peeve I was never able to get one with them because of that charge off. This is the first time I've ever been successful at any kind of recon. With the amount of credit I have overall, it's only going to get easier to stay within that 1-10% utilization range I've really been wanting for a long time now. Already my utilization has gone down to about 21% with the Amazon and WalMart accounts on my report. I also got 10 points added to my Experian credit report just from having those two accounts added, offsetting the inquiries there. I'm so glad that I applied for most of these on the same day. Only thing I got declined for was one of the Citi cards I was looking at and in hindsight, kinda didn't want anyway but the only reason they gave me was for the recent inquiries so that kinda tells me that in the future, I can be a bit more adventurous and try to get a higher tier card with them next year.

Here are all the cards that I have now.

WalMart Store Card - 900 CL

Amazon Store Card - 600 CL

Fingerhut - 600 CL

Discover It for Students - 500 CL

Wells Fargo Cash Back College Card - 700 CL

Capital One Journey Card - 500 CL

Citi Forward Card - 1000 CL

Credit limit total adds up to $4,800. Main cards I'll be using from this point on are the Citi Forward Card and the WF Cash Back one (mainly because of the higher limit it has than the Discover and CapOne though I will use those from time to time with smaller purchases). Store cards/lines of credit like Fingerhut, WalMart, and Amazon I'll use much more sparingly and pay off any balance in full.

When you applied for the Discover IT student card, did they ask you to verify enrollment or were you instantly approved without having to verify anything?
