Amex Delta Platinum Sky Miles Approval

Hey All!

Exciting news (for me at least). I was approved for my first American Express Card (Delta Sky Miles Platinum). It wasn't necessarily the exact product I was wanting as much as I was prequalifed for it and wanting to get my foot in the door of Amex products in general. $1,700 CL so I know I likely just squeked in. Current FICO's are EX- 659 TU- 626 EQ- 647. Recent Inquiries are Discover (Approved for their card with a $2K CL), Merrick Bank last year November (Was approved for a $550 limit and had the card for 6 months and was supposed to get a double my line promo but had a snafu and didn't get it. Closed the card today). I also recently closed a couple other Capital one Cards that had $500 credit limits. Trying to get away from the lower limit cards. My Current lineup is now:

Discover IT - $2k CL

Apple Card - $1.5K CL

Amex Delta Platinum- $1.7K CL

Capital One Quick Silver- $600 CL. Currently my oldest revolving line at just over 4 years old so trying to work on increasing the limit rather than closing it out.

Now that I have a foot in the door I'm curious if anyone knows how difficult it may be to shoot for the Amex Green in 8-12 months with my current FICO etc. now that I have at least one product by them?

Green should be easy, check now and see if it says "you're pre approved" or if it says "apply to expand your relationship" if it's you're pre approved that's pretty darn solid and you could get it right now, otherwise wait 90 days and just keep checking periodically after that until it says "you're pre approved" when you login to your account, browse all card, select the card you're interested in, green in this case, click apply now... it'll either say "you're pre-approved" or "apply to expand your relationsip" -- pre approved is pretty solid, apply to expand is your mileage may vary, but either way once your in it's a soft approval to get another card or a CLI. You can also apply for a CLI 3x on this card at 91 days (or sooner if you're feeling couragous)

This was all very helpful, so thank you. Just to make sure I understand. You're saying I can apply for a CLI that is 3x my current limit at 91 days?

Yes... In my instance I got a 1k credit limit, shortly after I got my card I applied for 3x, and got countered with 1k CLI, so then I was at 2K, I guess that didnt quite count for my 91 day initial CLI, because then at about 91 days I applied for 3x to go to 6K and they approved it. Now I have to wait 6 months. So YMMV, maybe you get one at 91, maybe you get one sooner and one at 91 or not at all. All you can do is try, it doesn't reset the clock if they deny you. I also have 8 other cards with AMEX and have had a relationship with them for 3 years, but this is the first CLI i've ever gotten.

Congrats on the SkyMiles card! I got the Hilton Honors card on the 6th with a 1K SL, gave in to temptation this afternoon and picked up the Gold card with NPSL and $1750 Pay Over Time limit this afternoon with a soft pull. Keep us posted on whether you pull the trigger on the green now or wait.

Assuming you build a few months of good history with this card I think you'll be in good shape to apply for AMEX Green.

Now that you're in with Amex, for the Green card either now or in a couple of months you should see it appears in the pre-approval page once you log in your account.

You didn't mention it though you should be receiving a nice SUB once you hit the spend. Remember, if you didn't put in a Delta SkyMiles Account Number when you applied, they will create an account for you and you'll need that to log into Delta's website to see the SUB posted.
