After getting approved a 'mere' 2000 from Penfed(this was before I knew Citi AA pulled EQ, not EX! Egad..had I known I wouldn't have apped for Penfed? Well..lol), I was in a proverbial dark place Even more dejected when the eagerly anticipated Citi AA Mileup card didn't arrive on Saturday(it arrived on Monday, like 10 days after approval, at the same time with Disco card replacement-my 3rd! collecting those as well lol-, Africa themed one. And I ordered Disco like 3 days ago lol, gotta LUV Disco!)! Had I known @Adkins got 1k for Disco earlier, I wouldn't have apped either I mean if a veteran user like @Adkins gets that scandalous SL, who am I to complain for getting 2k lol.

I knew Elan was hard to get, it's just slightly easier than USB(Cash+ is my dream card!). And I also knew it might pull EX, but after reading some members getting dinged TU, just went for it, almost in a fatalistic mood lol. Well it's my goal cb card, so why not now.

Surprisingly? I wasn't outright denied, it said wait.

So waited.

Today drove down to San Diego to attend NCAA Div. I NFC, one of the individual slams(there's 3 including NCAA tournament). While watching the match, during a lull, checked email and..

'You are approved for the World Mastercard® Max Cash Preferred Card.'

I almost yelled

Was so euphoric didn't check the next sentence at first;

'Your revolving line of credit is $500.'

Don't care lol, even getting approved itself is a miracle methinks. Fully deserved getting a toy limit! I of course was remorseful immediately after apping, knowing my chance was slim.

So, 4/5 in like 1.5 weeks I'm experiencing the POWER of gardening! Gardened 8 months! Before that apped like crazy, getting approved 1 card a month(so imagine the batting average lol, it was atrocious...!). Actually sorta gardened 4 months after getting approved for my 1st card, Cap1 Plat secured on April last year, but then didn't know the wonderland of credit card lol(is this America's pride Heard other countries rather lack in cc department?).

Another lesson is, 8 months was just barely enough for me to get approved, and it wasn't long enough to get decent SLs. The only surprise and delight was Citi AA which pulled EQ, my cleanest one(fewest inq), got 7300. Other SLs were not good, at all really. Bilt 2500, Penfed 2000, and Elan 500. Diminishing returns for sure. And if I followed veteran users' advice last April and gardened longer(some advised to garden for full 2 years), I surely would've gotten higher SL.

So naturally, my 'impulsive' way is not an ideal way at all. What's the use of getting the cards if one gets low SLs. But I was just too impatient to get good cards lol, and I guess I did get some. Frankly I'm not a big spender at all, and EMP is good enough to set my recurring charges like gym, cell phone and transit(have to choose 2 so gym and cell phone bill I guess, those are bigger than monthly bus pass). And those expenses are very low.

$500 spend in 3 months is surely manageable, so gotta run this card hard lol, just like CFF(Same SL), will have to pay often monthly!

Now I'm really through, no mas, no more apping..at least till mid January when about 7 EX HPs will fall off(1 year), a couple of EQ and EX too We'll see if I can get Citi CC, and if I get it, my ideal cb lineup will be complete. Next targets will all be rewards/travel cards like WF Autograph, Citi Rewards+(might PC to this from DC or Citi AA Mileup after 1 yr), BOA TR, Disco Miles..I do need ONE more EMP, or USB Cash + lol, but that's far in the future I guess!

Just GRATEFUL that I got approved at all, and of course grateful for all of you knowlegeable users, learned a lot(but didn't learn enough to app sparingly ). Now it's your turn @uncredited , app away

I'm pretty close to a safe ceiling with total CL. I'm beyond 3 x income, so....I'm not gonna be approved for much else unless my income increases (beyond COLA). As I don't foresee that happening at this time, I'm gonna stick with what I have for now. I really don't spend alot, and have a system which pays for most things I want/need with giftcards that I get more discount off of than the 5%-6% I "could" get in cc rewards on cc's I could still acquire. I can't get Walmart giftcards at a greater discount than 5%, so I did go for that one.

These last 3 weren't necessarily for the particular rewards, as most are duplication (or very close, with my category spends) of same % rewards I have on previous cards. I did want to get in with NFCU, PENFED & Amex though, and I had preapprovals with N & P that had SUB offers better than public offerings. I grabbed Amex thru the BCP public page, so got approved with no risk of wasted HP, with a nice SUB as well. The $700 in SUB's is pretty much all going to be earned with non-category spend planned for late Dec./early Jan. for dental procedures. I'll basically be netting roughly 10% cash back and/or statement credit for them via the combined SUBS.

So....not much for me to do now except pick up my rake and howe and head back to the garden. 😉

But you got Costco so PC it to CC I can do it too, from DC about April, or AA MileUp a year later. I also apped for CC in January or something, also got denied!
