Off Amex blacklist after BK

Just some info for others. I have been trying to get back in with Amex for years and it always denied me without a hard pull and I would recieve a letter stating previous relationship for denial.

We filed for Chapter 7 around 6/2016. It was discharged 8/2016.

Amex was included on two cards with $4633 and $1954 as balances. I never paid anything back.

I was able to get the BK removed from TransUnion a few months ago by just filing disputes every few months someone finally gave in and deleted it.

I was able to get it removed from Experian last week by filing a dispute and asking for early exclusion and it was deleted also.

Equifax has not given in on removing it or giving an early exception.

Other than the BK on Equifax there are zero derog's on my other reports with scores as 800 TU, 794 EX, 747 EQ.

Yesterday I tried the amex apply now and see if you are approved and it went thru and I was approved for the gold card. I was immediately given a card number for use and today it shows my card has shipped and will be delivered Thursday.

I was really really suprised to have gotten back in and I dont know what happened where I was able to get approved after years of not even having a credit report pulled.

I wanted to share as others have this question often and I have read every amex blacklist thread that pops up over the years.

I think AMEX primarily uses EX and TU, so maybe them removing your BK did the trick. Then again, reading some of the many stories of lengthy amounts of time some people have been on their blacklist regardless of BK removal, perhaps you just fell through the cracks somehow (stranger things have happened). Whatever happened, I guess it doesn't matter since you're back in! Congratulations on getting out of AMEX jail and your new gold card!!!

My gut, based upon the anecdotal evidence presented in this forum says AMEX has a tiered blacklist, one tier for folks who burned them for less than about $10,000 (maybe a few thousand either way), and a second blacklist for those of us, myself included, who burned them for well into the 5-figure (or more) category.

I just kept disputing something every 3-6 months figuring at some point I would get an employee that didnt care and would just delete it. At times I filed CFPB complaints also. Sometimes the disputes made things worse like disputing a credit card that shows discharged in BK once for example they took the BK off and showed it as a charge off and then I filed a CFPB complaint that the card was never late and never charged off then it got updated to paid never late. It was really just persistance and taking out the small things like the cards showing discharged in BK before going for the BK.

I do believe the credit reporting companies are under a microscope right now so maybe it was easier to accommodate me than to keep having me file complaints.

How early were you able to get the BK off EX in relation to their built in EE? I'm looking to get some baddies off EX and they're all mostly going to fall off in July with their built in EE, is it worth trying to get those removed a little earlier than that?

So you got EE from both TU and EXP from your Ch 7 filing in 2016?

Usually, one will be granted EE six months out from TU and three months out from EXP. Your CH 7 is over 24 months from dropping.

Wow congratulations on the approval!
My ch 7 discharged in 2012 and fell off my reports late last year and Amex still harps about how they cancelled my account previously.
