M&T Visa Signature $25K @ 15.49% APR

M&T Bank is rarely mentioned on MF, even though it is a large regional (top-25) bank headquartered in Buffalo NY. I've had an account there for years since a relative of mine went to college in the Albany area, which still gets some light use. Of slight interest to me is that they recently absorbed another bank with an established footprint in eastern Massachusetts and have built out some new brick and mortar branches.

Earlier this week they emailed me a targeted preapproval for their Visa Signature card with an enhanced $200/$500 spend SUB.The public promotion is $100 SUB on $500 spend, the card also offers 0% APR on purchases and BT for 12 months and $0 BT fee for the 1st 60 days from account opening. Beyond that, the card is a fairly vanilla no-AF no-FTF 1.5% cashback card. There are so few data points on the site that I decided earlier this evening to take the plunge.

Preapproval came with both an offer ID and program code, and entering them prepopulated the application with my information, application asked the usual questions about residence and how long I lived, employer/gross income/years of employment. On submission I got an immediate notice of an EX HP.

Application did not return a result, only an acknowledgement of application with a note that I would be contacted in 2-3 days if there were questions. After about 2 hours I logged in online and saw the account already created with SL and APR visible.

Congrats cf. I'm sure you don't need 1.5% CB but no one can say no to $200/$500. And, dang, you hit it out of the park with that CL. Even the APR (fixed or var?) is pretty good for today's climate (but hopefully you won't need to use it). Thanks for the post!

No, I don't need another 1.5% card but I wanted to capture a data point. A quick search on the site only turned up 1 approval reported here from back in I think 2014 which surprised me a bit given their size and footprint even pre-People's United acquisition, and rIght now their physical nexus covers the northeastern US including all 6 New England states at least down to Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Since you mentioned it, the interest rate is variable. 15.49% is currently their lowest advertised rate for this card.

I don't think so. I've already had my fun churning/collecting/unicorn chasing (a one point I had a 2 year period where I was averaging an approval every 2 weeks) so nowadays I'm mostly motivated to either fill a niche or collect a data point. This card only delays my dropping back below 5/24 again by a few weeks so I figured I'd collect a data point.

Adding a quick update in order to flesh out the data point.

On Monday, I got in the mail a letter confirming my approval for the card and a different letter with the card and a T&C flyer.

I met the $500 spend requirement for the SUB on Monday night.

I got an email earlier this morning with subject "M&T Rewards Promotion Awarded" confirming I earned the 20,000 point SUB.

As of yet the card is not reporting (i.e. they don't align with the Synchrony paradigm) so I assume that won't happen until after the 1st statement closes.
