AMEX Platinum Approved With Unpaid Amex Charge-off

Hello MyFICO Members,

I don't post to the forums often, but whenever I get a decent data point I always try to pay it forward. I know being blacklisted with AMEX after you have a charge-off with them is something that comes up from time to time. I can 100% confirm that AMEX let me back in after a charge-off that occurred roughly 9 years ago for just over $5000 total across two lines of credit. A gold card and the old blue cash (the translucent one they had a while back).

I was instantly approved for the Amex Platinum a few days ago after I received an email offer and decided to apply just to see what would happen. (The bonus points were good and I wouldn't mind having another lounge card) The two old accounts are STILL showing in my account. I'll probably pay them off or settle them with Amex since I could totally see myself accidentally paying them off while trying to pay the balance on the Platinum.

My reports show they pulled TU (740) & EX (765)
Yearly income is $255k
I have a few cards with higher limits (Apple $27k / FNBO $25k / X1 $30k / AA Executive $25k etc.. )

Utilization is always under 10%

Long story short... AMEX forgives but they don't forget.

Like you I had two AMEX cards go to chargeoff.

A Gold and a clear Everyday card. They were charged off approx 7.5yrs ago. Approx $4000 across both cards.

I was approved for the BCP in Oct 22 with a $5000 limit. I about fell out of my chair when I was approved for that amount.

The charged off cards show on my account and like you I plan on paying them off over the course of 2023.

FICO on all bureaus right at 700.

Does anyone know if old accounts IIB will show if and when you get back in with amex or would that not happen since they were dismissed and not charged off?

I'm unsure, @NoMoreDebt, but this question may have been answered on the BK boards...

I know that some have said that Amex offered them an opportunity to get back in through a card that starts with an O...can't recall the name though.

My Amex portal was still active after 8+ years (there were 100's of credit score alerts from their free credit tracking service when I logged in).

Amex always has the account data and I'm sure they could add it back to the online account regardless of whether it was settled, BK, or CO
