BTW, as far as utilization, this card doesn't factor into your utilization. However, the dollar amount balance IS still included as part of your overall debt in raw dollars.

There is not necessarily a correlation between NPSL spending ability and Pay Over Time limits. Until recently, it was common for everyone to get $25k or $35k for this "limit." Some people will be asked to make a mid-statement payment prior to having additional charges approved well before hitting their POT limit. Others (raises hand) would be allowed to spend far more than their POT limit. Out of curiosity, I looked at my work account, and the POT limit is $25k but the monthly statements average a little over 4 times that amount. NPSL is dynamic; POT usually remains static.

The Check Spending Ability button can be found by navigating to the Account Services tab in your Amex account. Using this function as intended will not cause any issues. American Express expects you to be making a purchase in the neighborhood of the amount, so depending on the amount of your No Preset Spending Limit using it to guess your current internal limit could cause holds. Repeated use of the button with escalating amounts can trigger fraud algorithms.

Most cardholders will never be impacted by NPSL.

I hope OP isn't surprised at the annual fee that will come due if OP didn't even realize this was a NPSL card. My brother can spend 60k as he was going to charge a real estate investment on his card since he was paying cash for it anyways. Granted my brothers scores are in the 830s and he rarely opens new accounts and doesn't really carry balances so he's like the perfect Amex cardholder lol

FTR - my monthly spend on Amex Gold is offen more than my POT limit and has never resulted in a decline.
