Members 1st FCU Low Rate Platinum Visa

Was approved for a Members 1st FCU Low Rate Platinum Visa for $5000. No balance transfer fee, no cash advance fee, card.

I believe it was just a soft pull on TU.

Data points: high revolving utilization, 6/24 on new accounts, 4 TU HP's within 12 months, TU was around 700 at the time.

There are multiple credit unions named "Members First"; this one is based in Mechanicsburg PA.

Credit union open to all.*

* I see on their website that it says "If you want to become a member, your employer, organization, school or church needs to be affiliated with us as a Select Employer Group (SEG). If that is not the case, then you must be a relative of someone who is already a member. If you aren't sure, visit a branch or call us and we'll be happy to assist you." So either they changed their requirements during the past year, or I got in through something like the American Consumer Council or the Financial Fitness Association, something like that. Because I'm not local and I'm not employed by any of their employer groups.

It's going to be on the high side for a non-rewards card, because my current credit scores are marginal, and my current revolving utilization is high, not to mention the high prevailing rates. It will be somewhere between 13.75% and 18%. A year ago the range would probably have been 7.75% to 12.75% or thereabouts.

2. The most recent cards I added were not-well-thought-out applications: they were two rewards cards, ignited by some enthusiastic posts in this forum (the culprit who inspired me to apply for them knows who he is, but shall remain nameless since his intentions were good). Since my personal spend is very light, I needed 2 more rewards cards like a hole in the head. I must admit though that one, the Comenity AAA Travel Advantage card, turned out to be a GREAT card. The other, the Citi Shop Your Way card, is already ensconced in my sock drawer. Without those two I would be at 4/24.

Congrat...That is a very nice addition to your line-up. I have a few questions if you can answer on those, please. Do you think this CU is NOT generous enough in granting good CL? If not, then why do you think you have received this much SL given the fact that not many accounts are opened in last 24 months nor many new inquiries in last 12 months on your TU report? I mean, SL $5k is very good CL, but I believe they could have given more given your thick profile and other positive factors... Can you plz check your Chex report to know if they have pulled from there as well? How many inquiries you have in your Chex within last 12 months, plz? What made you to go after this CU/card when there are so many CUs out there that have 'zero balance transfer fee' with higher SL? Anything specific about this card?? Tnx

1. I think they were generous enough. My credentials aren't good lately, because my utilization is way up, and my scores way down. Most credit unions wouldn't have given me the card at all under these circumstances. I'm sure someone with better credentials would get a better limit.

2. No they didn't pull Chex.

3. I like non-rewards platinum cards with no balance transfer fee, no cash advance fee, and lower interest. They had that kind of card, which is the reason I joined. I just came across them in my research, I think. It was a year ago that I joined, so my memory might not be accurate.

You don't need to redeem yourself with me You just keep on doing what you've been doing, which is being a great contributor who shares his favorite discoveries with the rest of us.

I already have a good sized shopping list of the kind of cards I do like, and should probably stop adding to it. And none of them are personal rewards cards.

And I've got to avoid those impulse purchases. (But I must say that the Comenity AAA Travel Advantage card to which you introduced me is probably the number one best personal rewards card I have, based on my spending habits. If I had to cut out all but one of my personal rewards cards that would be the one I keep. The Shop Your Way card, however, would be the first I drop. I totally hate that one.)
