I requested this upgrade on 04/13/2014 through the Secure Message Center and six hours later got the following reply:

Dear mnavas,

Thank you for contacting Chase about changing your account
ending in XXXX.

In order to process your request, I have forwarded your
message to the appropriate department for review. An
escalation Specialist will review the request and will
contact you once the review is complete.

As always, it is important to provide you with a response
in a timely manner. Please be advised you will receive a
response within 10 to 14 business days.

If you have any further questions, please reply using the
Secure Message Center.

Sincerely,

A. The clueless CSRs didn't even know what i was talking about.. they said it was impossible to do an upgrade to VISA SIGNATURE and instead i needed to reapply for a new card...of course i wasn't dumb enough to give up another HP and submitt another app for a new account

Anyway, yesterday i called their regular Customer Service number and while hearing all my account information through the Automated service i found out that i no longer have a CREDIT LIMIT but instead a CREDIT ACCESS LINE which means my Chase Freedom Visa is now SIGNATURE

Interesting Facts:

-My Chase account is only one year old. It was approved with a CL of $2,200 last march a requested a CLI to get it up $5000 and was given $800 but i was given the option of transfering some CL from my other Chase accounts which i did

-My Chase Freedom account is currently sitting at $5,700 due to the steps mentioned above

-I requested the Upgrade 9 days before my account anniversary which was due on 04/22/2014

-I was told it could take 10-14 days to complete the upgrade and it took about 10 business days (i kind of wonder if it took them that long because my account wasn't elegible for the upgrade due to the fact that i requested this before my account hit one year but yeah the upgrade was done between the timeframe)

-No call from Chase. I was expecting one because i read on this forum that many folks were contacted by Chase to update their income but i did request a CLI in march so i guess they had all my info updated and a call was not needed

Congrats! There is no doubt the CSRs are there to answer phones only. Had to use the Chase Secure Message for my Chase Business upgrade. Saved the EO but didn't need to. For years all the CSRs told me is an upgrade wasn't available on my account. Dogged determination!

Congrats! Had a similar ordeal when upgrading mine. My account was almost 3 years old in February and in March I received a $1k CLI pushing my CL to $5.5k. Called to upgrade to VS and was told it was not possible. Took almost 3 weeks and multiple SMs to finally get it converted.

Is it a must to convert from plat to signature?

Nope, you don't have to convert your Visa Platinum to Signature, It's just a personal decision... Some issuers like Chase will require you to have at least a $5,000 CL to qualify for the signature card.

Besides the benefit of not having a preset spending CL, and according to Nerwallet website these are the main benefits:

Visa Signature Card’s extra benefits

1. Concierge - We’ll start with one of the most prestigious Visa Signature benefits–the exclusive (and complimentary) concierge service. Service experts are standing by 24/7 to take calls and help you handle things like restaurant and hotel reservations, travel arrangements, entertainment planning, ticket purchasing and business arrangements. You can call to inquire about everything from car rental rates to restaurant hours to travel directions. Your concierge can even take care of gift purchasing and delivery. It’s like having a personal assistant–a personal assistant who works 24/7 for free.

2. Luxury Hotel Benefits - When you use your Visa Signature card to book a reservation at one of 800+ luxury hotels, you’ll receive several complimentary extras–and we’re not just talking an extra mint on your pillow. Your Visa will guarantee the best possible rate and grant an automatic room upgrade when available. You also get free in-room Internet or Valet parking, a free continental breakfast, 3:00 PM check-out, VIP guest status and a $25 food and beverage voucher. Visa takes the “luxury” factor to the next level.

3. Travel Protections - If you’re a traveler, you should probably have a Visa Signature card. Why? Protection. By simply choosing the right credit card, you can make your travels quite a bit safer. Perhaps the most enticing protection is the lost luggage reimbursement. Should your luggage go missing on a flight, you can be reimbursed for whatever the carrier doesn’t pay (up to $3,000). You and your dependents are also given Accidental Death and Dismemberment travel insurance when you use your card to pay for fare on a common carrier (including taxi, bus, train, airport limousine or courtesy transportation; excluding aircraft). The minimum coverage is $250,000. Additionally, Visa Signature cardholders and their dependents have access to complimentary Travel and Emergency Assistance services, including medical and legal referral assistance, emergency transportation assistance, ticket replacement, lost luggage locator, emergency translation, prescription assistance and more.

4. Travel discounts - When you pay for travel services with your Visa Signature credit card, you can qualify for discounted rates on hotel reservations, car rentals and cruises. Simply visit Visa’s website to view current offers. Right now, there are discounts of up to $200 on vacation packages, $500 in cruise credits and 20% off car rentals.

5. Entertainment deals - Visa doesn’t want you to get bored. With your Signature card, you’re eligible for discounts on a number of entertainment options. These include exclusive rates on movie tickets through Fandango as well as sports ticket packages. You can also score discounts on select golfing purchases–things like equipment and lessons. If you’re traveling to Sonoma County anytime soon, your Visa Signature will get you free tastings at over 60 world-class wineries. Some wineries will give you special discounts on purchases and reserve tastings, and you’ll save 15% on transportation when booking through Pure Luxury Wine Tours.

6. Shopping deals – With no preset spending limits and a complimentary warranty manager service, Visa Signature cards can be an indespensable tool for shoppers. Cardholders also have a large array of diverse shopping discounts at their disposal. You can receive signature savings on everything from electronics to apparel to home and garden purchases. For example, right now Visa is offering $25 off Macy’s purchases of $100 or more, 50% off select items at Crate & Barrel and 15% off Ghirardelli purchases.

7. Auto rental collision damage waiver benefit

These last two benefits are available to all Visa cardholders. While not exclusive to Signature members, we thought them worth a mention. If you rent a car in your home country, Visa will reimburse you for damages up to the actual cash value of most vehicles. Visa provides secondary insurance, meaning they’ll only reimburse you for damages not payable by any other party (like the car rental company or your regular auto insurance company). Still, it’s nice to know that someone has your back when you’re on vacation. An important side note: if you’re renting an “expensive or exotic automobile” (like a Porsche or Aston Martin), an automobile that’s 20+ years old, or a van that transports more than 8 people, the waiver benefit doesn’t apply. Check out our comparison of credit card rental car coverage for further details.

8. Lost, stolen and damaged card protection

If your credit card gets lost, stolen or damaged, Visa is there to help. You have several options. If you need money now, they’ll give you an emergency cash advance within one business day and arrange a place for you to pick it up. Alternatively, they can get you a new card in the same amount of time. They’ll work with your issuing bank for approval and arrange for the delivery of the new card. Through their Zero Liability program, you’re not required to pay for any fraudulent charges (a step up from what’s federally mandated). Visa also tries to protect you from fraud before it happens. They automatically scan accounts for suspicious transactions and will report any sketchy activity to your bank. In extreme cases, they’ll automatically put your account on hold. Before you get paranoid about your privacy, keep in mind “suspicious activity” refers to obvious red flags, like super large quantities of mismatched shipping and billing addresses or social security number changes.

Also, in my personal opinion, having a Visa Signature represents how good you have managed your credit and personal finances so it's kind of like a "prestige card"

I got about 14K on my freedom card that resulted from an auto CLI six months ago. I have called to have it converted into a signature type card, but the rep was adamant there were no such thing as converting to signature. Of course, the CSR wasn't very helpful in directing me to the right department or given me any information regarding the matter and ended the call.

Congrats on your UG
