I recently bought a place and have been using Amazon a lot. The store card pre-qualification tool worked but the Visa one didnt. I decided what the heck and applied. Approved and SL $18K.

I went on a spree as soon as my closing was done so this will eventually be 9/24 BUT only 2 are showing on my credit report so far.

Congrats on the approval even with so many applications.

I had seen your post about your post closing spree but I did have a question, are you actually at 9/24? Did any of your approved cards report yet on the bureus that Chase pulled? Because Chase really only knows your 5/24 status based on their credit pull and I'm assuming since you just bought a house, you didn't apply for any credit recently. I just wanted to clarify for other forum members in the future.

Congrats on your $119.3K app spree, @Hipployta and Chase Amazon approval.

Since only two were reporting, though, the thread title is misleading since Chase would absolutely never have approved you at 9/24! (Not to mention 9/1 month; you weren't just 9/24!) And now 10/24 after the Langley app, which will also show up.

And yes, they would shut your new account down for such high credit-seeking behavior (and maybe even your older accounts), even as an existing client, since this kind of activity is unusual and high risk. Think of it from their viewpoint; this is not typical consumer behavior (Many consumers may not apply for nine cards over their entire lifetime, much less in one month.) They don't know why you suddenly needed so much credit nor what you plan to do with it. Credit underwriting analyzes an applicant's entire credit/financial picture to make a lending decision. However, adding a lot of potential additional credit obligations suddenly and without their ability to consider it deprives them of making the same decision they might have made if you applied after they knew about them.

Sprees are always risky but moreso as more new accounts are added. A lot of lenders besides Chase will soft pull your credit often, and believe me they won't like it when they see what was done. IMO, three, four, five at one time is moderate risk one or more lender may take adverse action, depending on the lender and overall profile. More than that is probably high risk, and that could be regardless of credit profile or FICO.

Nothing to do now but wait and see what will happen, though. Good luck with keeping all of that new credit! It's a nice haul if it sticks.

However, there are enough datapoints which suggest that Chase does approve Amazon card to many people who have been a lot over 5/24....highest I have seen on many sites similar to this and I believe one case was here as well...were of 13/24. And none of them ever came back to report if their account was ever shut down later on at some points ...or perhaps I might have missed those datapoints....

And none of them ever came back to report if their account was ever shut down later on at some points ...or perhaps I might have missed those datapoints....

We're mixing issues and data points, @Janneman. It's one thing to be over 5/24 ... maybe 6/24 or 7/24 but maybe 0/6 at the same time - and get approved for a Chase card regardless at Chase's option - with their full knowledge. And yes, the Amazon card was a known loophole, at least for awhile. But it's a whole other ballgame to be reporting 2/24 at time of application and have 7 or 8 additional pending cards show up after-the-fact when they continue to soft pull newly-approved applicants. Those Chase approvals were based on what they knew at the time of application. For anyone on a spree and with many unreported cards, that's an entirely different situation.

I've don't think I've ever seen anyone approved at 13/24, but anything can happen at least once. The thing to remember is that 5/24 is just (ONE) piece of information Chase uses. Some applicants are under 5/24 and still get denied based on overall profile. Some might be a little above and squeak by. Normally, that's when Chase give a green or black star preapproval, or the customer has a strong credit profile combined with good banking relationship. The problem with comparing ourselves on My FICO or other websites is that we have incomplete information about each other's exact profile, and there are so many variables it would be impossible to cover all the bases on a forum like this, even if we were all willing to share our entire profile. On the other hand, the credit underwriter sees and considers everything. So when we see others get a certain result, it may or may not have a bearing on what will happen to us. For most of us, and for most Chase cards, 5/24 is a hard-and-fast rule that has been documented over time, and that has included pending activity.

If you do a search of the forums for adverse action, AA, etc - you will find several lenders besides Chase have been known to take AA and sometimes that is directly in relation to opening too many new accounts after an approval. I won't try to post all the links but it's a big topic over the years. There was also one >link to a Class Action lawsuit Chase settled< over some of their shutdowns. But the settlement was small and probably didn't deter Chase from shutting down anyone in the future that they see as a high risk.

I am sure you must have known that it doesnt matter how many cards you opened in a certain time but if they are not showing up on your credit reports then they are not matter to any lender as they are unknown. So, how many total accounts were showing up on your credit reports which have been opened in last 24 months, please? Thanks

OP was saying that he was 2/24 per credit reports but there were additional cards which had been approved but not reporting.

With Chase, *YES* it does matter to them! If you would have been over 5/24 after accounting for pending new accounts, they might decide you were ineligible and close the newly-approved account after-the-fact.

Thanks for clarrifying all these.

Chase has been making exceptions for the Amazon card. But that doesn't change their process of pulling reports for review in a month or two after the approval. It's one thing to be 9/24 showing on approval and another after the fact. Chase doesn't like credit seeking so if they see an additional 8 cards, including theirs, there is a very high chance of them closing the card. My warning earlier is in regards to any SUB that may be available because even if it was earned, it'll be lost if the card is shut down, maybe even clawed back if already used.

Congratulations on your approvals! Chase does not take sprees kindly and they could close your card when they find out.

@Hipployta wrote:

Welp all I can do is wait a few months and see what happens. If they close it then it closes. Before I opened these my utilization was at 11% (16K/150K) so it won't change too much. If they stay open then that's fine too. Some of them are from May and they still aren't reporting so they'll update eventually.

Thanks for the congrats!

Yes, just wait (at least for 6 months) and see how all this would unfold. Hope and pray for the best. Besides, there is nothing you could do at this point.

However, not to deter from what others have said on this matter nor to contradict the datapoints on it, I will tell my own personal experience on it so far. 2-3 yrs ago I went on a spree and accumulated 12 new accounts with different lenders (not with Chase though)...and nothing happened to my two existing Chase cards that I have for many many years...Now, my situation might have been different since I did not open a new Chase card during the spree...but I did lose 2-3 cards with other lenders within 3-4 months thru AA as those accounts were opened during the spree and closed down to mitigate the risk....but of course, they wont tell you why they closed your accounts, rather they said in my case- "couldn't verify identity"....Yeah right...after 3-4 months later of opening of those accounts they remembered to not being able to verify my identity...lols....Good luck to you....
