There is absolutely NOTHING like rebucketing of a Capital One card and I know this from personal knowledge. The way credit cards were underwritten, buckets were assigned at the point of account opening based on the applicant's credit profile. This was normally set for the life of the account. Even if credit improved over time, it did not correlate with the card's growth. The only way to get better terms was for applicants to literally apply for new credit with their improved credit profile. Each card family were grouped as mainstream and some other names that I forgot. Additionally, factors such as increased/heavy spending were big factors to scoring credit line increases. This part is public knowledge that Capital One actually shares with customers when they get declined for a CLI. So frequent use and/or large spending is likely what triggered the credit line increase for OP. Nothing like rebucketing at C1.

Yesterday was the 6th month mark since my last CLI on one of my Capital One cards, but I waited an extra day for good measure. I only use this card for a recurring transaction to pay my storage unit, used it a couple times while I was in France last month at a grocery store (didn't want to melt my NFCU Visa lol), and also used it on the metro in Paris to purchase tickets. In the past I only got $100 or $200 CLIs from them on any of my cards, so I wasn't expecting much different. I hit the LUV button, and my jaw nearly hit the floor when the app said I was approved for a $1,000 increase, to bring my total line for that card to $1,400! Does anyone think me using my card abroad had any play into it?

Scores in my sig are current as of 7/8.

Nothing like rebucketing at C1.

Using your card abroad may have garnered their attention/cli opportunity. For me regular spend seems to be the norm since around 2020/2021. I don't ever recall having to answer cli questions like they (Cap1) ask now though...eg. "How much will your monthly spend be on this card?" and "How much is your monthly spend on all cards combined?". Once before, on a regular 6 month schedule, I'd get a $3k cli everytime on mine and dh's cards. We were using those cards often, not heavily, but swiping quite a bit. (I posted here about those cli's) However, once we quit using those cards on a regular basis the cli's dried up. It could be that I was answering those cli questions not to their satisfaction as well...meaning I was honest and would answer that I'd only use about 30% of the credit limit. I'm going to test that theory soon.

Capital One's own public disclosure for its asset-backed securities shows that "rebucketing" is not only possible, but it's guaranteed to happen to some cards. Their Class A ABS, at least the one shown in the 2017 Myfico thread on this subject, and reconfirmed in a 2019 thread, is 100% comprised of accounts older than 60 months / has no accounts younger or equal to 24 months. Thus, their highest ABS trust grouping literally cannot be assigned at account creation and every account in it was moved there after aging in.

This certainly does not preclude lower buckets from having different rules (I haven't read the other 3 classes and their details) and I won't deny that any movement betweem those is speculation having not read what kind of accounts are in them, but it does show as fact-in-filing that Cap One creates its highest bucket by moving accounts in from elsewhere. Even if you worked for them as it sounds like you may have, it would be your opinion as an employee against their legally required public disclosure of how their ABSs are arranged. That document contains pure facts and outright states that rebucketing is not false information.
