Best Buy Credit Card Approval?

So I just applied for the best buy credit card and got this message, " Thanks for your application. Please call Citibank N.A. using the numbers below to provide a few more details and receive a decision." So I called the number and provided the information. The representative said I just needed to verify my home address and phone number, so he sent a text to my phone and then told me "congratulations you're approved for the Citi Visa Credit Card with a starting limit of $4,000." I said thanks and hung up. Then my computer screen refreshed and it shows I was approved for the "best buy store card" and not the visa like I was told.

I'm not too upset about this, however I am confused. I tried calling best buy credit card customer service and they said that they only see I was approved. They said I'd have to go to a best buy store in person and see if it's actually the visa or just the store card version. And if it was the store card, I'd have to apply again for the visa version, but there's no guarantee I'd be approved for the upgrade. I was also told it could result in another hard pull on my credit report.

Has this happened to anyone else? I mean I didn't plan on spending the card outside of Best Buy, but I don't like being told I was approved for the visa when I apparently wasn't.

You could call the Credit Services number, 888-574-1301, and see if they can bump your limit or see about approval for the VISA or store card.

I did call them. They can't tell me if it's the store card or the visa card. And when I call the number they gave me, it just says, "congratulations you've been approved and your credit card should arrive in 7-10 business days." It doesn't even tell me if it's the store card or visa card. I guess I'll just have to go to a best buy in person and see. Such a weird experience.

I just picked up the Citi Best Buy Visa for $5K and when they showed the approval screen it asked if I wanted the store or Visa version. (obvious choice!)

You can temporarily get into your account via the Best Buy website, go to rewards and see if it gives info for spend outside of Best Buy or just earning in store rewards. You can also set your rewards to accumulate or cut at certain earn denominations.

It doesn't give me a "preview" on my rewards page. It just shows me as a "regular" best buy rewards customer when I login. I've had a best buy account for 11+ years (when it was "free" and tied to your email/phone number). The rewards currently say "0" since my current card isn't connected to my account yet. I also wasn't given an option of choosing a card. I was just told I was approved for the Visa. I'll just have to wait and see.

It's been a few years ago, I applied in store for the Best Buy card. I was approved for bothe store and the Visa version. My buddy was talking to me and I mistaken selected the Store version. As soon as I realized I had hit the wrong button, I told the associate that I hit the button and I would like the Visa version. The associate picked up the phone and called Citibank.

She had explained everything to Citibank rep. After a few minutes of going back and forth, the Citibank rep requested to speak to me to verify some information. Provided everything to her and she stated, "We cannot go back and make the change as you already accepted the terms and conditions. If you want, we can close this account, and then you can re apply. However, there is not guaranteed you will get accepted and it will be another hard inquiry."

Blown away by this, I pushed back and requested to speaker to a manager. Needless to say the manager stated he cannot do anything and proceeded to state the same above. He did mention that they do quarterly checks and offers upgrades to the Visa. like clock work, I called every six month to see if it was eligible, " Sorry, Mr. Risingup2day your account is not eligible.

Every six months turned into yearly. After a few years later, I just gave up.This stupid card will never get the upgrade... several times I was ready to pull the trigger and close it down. I would come the this site and see other posting " Got my Best Buy upgraded to Visa!" Read the few data points out there regarding this card, I lost all hope... I'm stuck with BBY store card.... FOREVER!!!!

One day, I got a email notice, "Congratulations! We are offering select card members the opportunity to upgrade your Best Buy card and give you more opportunities to get more rewards!!! Immediately signed up... expecting an confirmation- nothing.... so I called the number and they said "I don't see this offer on your account." Went back email click the link again - and nothing... a few days later I received and email stating, "We recently sent you an email regarding your account being selected to upgrade your current card to Visa. Please respond".

The end result, I finally got the Visa after nearly 6-7 years... Took longer than one would like, but just hanging in there. You mileage will vary. Scores during this time frame was 684 - 712.

That's strange... When I was approved, they linked up my BB Rewards account right then and there. Bought a 75" TV that day for the 10% rewards on same day purchase and it all worked out.

That's strange... When I was approved, they linked up my BB Rewards account right then and there. Bought a 75" TV that day for the 10% rewards on same day purchase and it all worked out.

So for an update, I also asked the same question in another forum topic (general credit) because it just got more confusing. So it can't link to my account because I was originally approved for only the store card. I finally received my "Adverse Notification/Approval" email from Citi. However, I think because I had call the Recon/Fraud Department for my application, the rep I spoke with must have upgraded me to the Visa Version. Best Buy's website shows the visa. But the pre-approval link shows the store card. So I'm going to have to wait and see which card I get and activate it before I can use it online. Luckily it shipped and Citi said I should get it in 5 days (by the end of the week). I've just never had this happen before when applying for a card...it's a weird/unique experience I think.

I signed up last night and you are describing exactly what I'm going through. I chose the visa and was approved etc. Its not on my account online. And when I called the best buy credit card number I was told I don't have the visa I have the best buy store card and there was nothing they could do. I'm a little upset cause me and my wife share a bank account so it's hard to hide when I buy something. I was trying to buy her birthday and Christmas gifts and felt this was perfect because we use best buy alot but I could still use it else where if I found something for her. Where did you go to finally get help??

I've called twice today and talked to multiple people even a manger higher up and was told they dont know how it happenee but they can't do anything and they aren't doing upgrades right now lol.
