US Bank Altitude Go 10k, Citi Custom Cash 9k

I have been looking for a way to replace my American Express Gold card, which I use for groceries and take-out. It's been a solid card, but the annual fee is signifcant. We've been redeeming AmEx points for gift cards because we're not frequent flyers.

I decided to pick up the Altitude Go from US Bank for its 4% cash back on restaurants, including fast food. I also decided to go with the Citi Custom Cash for grocery card spend, which offers 5% back for the first $500 per month. By my math, the AmEx Blue Cash Preferred was also a strong contender but works out to 4.42% cash back if used only for groceries, after subtracting the annual fee (both of them come with a $500 per month / $6k per year limit for that).

Since the two new cards have no annual fee and higher cash back rewards than our AmEx Gold, the choice was easy. It does sting a little that there are product change options without an annual fee.

I applied this morning, starting with US Bank because I've heard that it is one of the more conservative lenders. They pulled Transunion, and I was approved for a $10,000 limit. Then I applied for Citi. They pulled Equifax, and I was approved for a $9400 limit.

Before applying, my Experian FICO8 was 800. No account over 20% usage, 17 years oldest age, 5.5 years average age, 3 months most recent account, no baddies.

have you ever asked for any referral offers for the Amex Gold to help the AF make more sense?

amex business checking has a 30k point bonus currently and allows for .8c/point redemptions

Excellent first posting with supporting and helpful data points!

Congratulations on a very nice pair of approvals from two lenders known to be more selective.

The AMEX Gold (and other AMEX charge cards) can be an excellent value for right consumer profile. Then for others of us who, we've decided we are better off with other options. If you're not traveling, I can how MRs are not worthwhile as opposed to no-AF cards. I think you made the right choice. Enjoy those new cards!
