Citi Premier denied then approved through manual review

After getting denied in Jan, I reapplied on Dec 10 online. Immediately received a pending notice, two days after, I received a denial notice. I received the hard copy about a week later. The denial letter only listed one issue:

Too many recent credit inquiries are recorded on your credit bureau report

The prior application pulled Equifax which would have had two inquiries, Feb 2022 and Jan 2023, the latter being the prior Citi application.

So I called the reconsideration line and asked if I could get further clarification on the denial and if it made sense, to get a manual review or reconsideration of my application. The representative put me on hold and came back with an approval.

Credit line: 12,000

At the time of application:

Exp: 829 Eq: 814 TU: 830

Inquiries (6/12/24): Exp: 0/0/4 Eq: 0/1/2 TU: 0/0/1

Cards: 11 credit + 2 charge cards

Total credit limit: 153K

No derogotories.

Avg age: 4y 1mo

Oldest account: 11y 11mo

Utilization: less than 1%

Income: +/- 160k

wow so you had max 2 inquiries and they denied you for that?

they are so crazy. most people know that with citi if your score is TOO HIGH and you PIF, they will deny bc they want that crazy high interest income. eeven most "prime" cards right now are chargin 28-30% interest lol obvi dont carrry a balance.
