American Express Green Card, pre-approved

I very recently acquired the Amex Green Card after learning I was pre-approved for it. I'm trying to increase my amount of cards and diversify them, and I believe having and using an Amex will be beneficial for my credit scores.

Amex allowed me to take a final step to accept the card. This differs from the experience I had with my PayPal Mastercard where I had the card the instant I was approved.

This Amex is about to be my primary card, and I have it on autopay and will pay it off religiously. I am really excited about this approval and excited to add 1-2 more cards in the coming months as I raise my scores!

Not to take away from the excitement, just some education - having this Amex is not likely to help your scores much. Score will dip on the short term for adding a new inquiry and account but over time, with age, it will be beneficial. Secondly, should you want another Amex, it is likely that application will be a soft pull only. Also, It is a charge card, so you are expected to pay in full each month. It should be your primary as you spend to meet the SUB, then you need to balance each of the cards you have for its own specific uses based on its rewards structure.

i had the Amex green last year when I travelled a lot for work and it was a great card. Again, congratulations!

This is solid advice, they is no need to sock drawer your 3 other reward card for the Green card, if they have offer a better return rate for the category of spend.(ie 5% cash back vs 1MR point if you buy something off of Amazon).

Thank you so much for the education! I'm not expecting massive short term gains for adding this card but am definitely hopeful that it will help me in the long term as I make payments. I am planning to pay it in full each month and am excited at the prospect of getting other Amex cards (ideally with no annual fee!) without a hard pull.

I appreciate your input! I won't be completely sock drawering my other cards though I want to focus on building a history with Amex and will put a some of my larger charges on this card, but I do get great rewards from my Paypal and Amazon cards, plus I know Amex won't be accepted everywhere.
