100K AMEX BCP CREDIT LIMIT

I finally got my first 100K credit line on a single credit card.

I have the Amex BCP for about 18 months. Started with 20K initiall credit line (I had burn AMEX 13 years ago).

My credit limit increases are as follow:

20K to 30K to 60k.

about 6 months ago, I requested 100K. I was granted 75K and asked to submit 3 bank statements if I wanted 100K.

I ignored the request and my credit line was 75K for the past 6 months.

Then yesterday (Sat) , I request 100K again. Same message asked to submit 3 bank statements.

I submitted a digital sign in on my bank account to amex.

then 5 mins later I got an email "Good News your CL is now 100K" - lol

I have AMEX BCP and Plat. (BCP about 18 months old, Plat about 14 months old)

The bank statememt I submitted only have small balance, but it is where I normally receive my direct deposit.

which makes me believe - all they want to check in the bank statement is to verify your identity and check the deposits coming into the accout.

reported income 250K (make more than that).
FICO score 8 above 820s(EX, TU, EQ)

Current Cards

BOA cash rewards 99.9K CL - I have this limit for over 7 years, requested $100 increase couple of years, to make it 100K but they refuse.
AMEX PLAT.
AMEX BCP 75K before CLI (now 100K since Saturday).
Cap venture X 30K (PC from venture to X about 7 years ago) - it is bucketed, so no increase . I will close soon since I only use Amex PLAT for all my travels now.

The next card on my radar is now AMEX Hilton Aspire - I consider it the best deal since the FNC( free night credit) is basically priceless.

Oh full disclosure: I signed up for the SUB for the AMEX checking($350) like 7 months ago, and savings($400) a month ago offers.

but I doubt this was relevant in their decision , because even before I open the savings account I got the same "send bank statement request"

the only other thing I will add is when AMEX ask anyone to send bank statement request, don't be scared, as long as your direct deposit goes into the account, that is all that matters. Your current or previous balance is irrelevant.

I appreciate this information! I wonder how it is they go through the information and such...

I keep way more than I need in my checking 5-10k, trying to stay at the 10k level (OCD?) and I am trying to get my own BCP to (a completely unnecessary) 40k (+10k from now). I got instant denial 7-10 beginning of the month.

I may try in july/august with large paychecks deposited & less debt... my 60% utl citi is probably what is holding me back.

It has been stated iirc amex can know your income by what you file on taxes, curious how true that is. 125k filed, 130k reported (missing NYS-1099).

And congratulations! biggest limit ive seen. how much do you PUT through that card...!?!

I can't say wheter they have access to what you filed on taxes or not, but if your employer or the payroll manager they contract out reports to The Work Number (TWN), then they'll get a lot of it from The Work Number. TWN can have everything by the way, down to how much you spent in your employer's cafeteria and what they deducted out of your pay checks for child support etc.

I've noticed over the last 4 years or so when I skim my report once or twice a year, there's always American Express in there pulling my TWN report every 6 to 8 months. Only recently have I asked for a CLI and applied for a new card. The one HH I did have wasn't used a single time in five years, but you can count on them pulling my TWN every 6 to 8 months.

Most don't, I was just giving you an idea of how invasive and comprehensive it can be. It can also be very vague too and have information wrong. It depends on who is reporting and how much they report.

3.) They'll ask for your employer before letting you create an account I think, but I can't remember.

Then just go through the steps.

Very interesting how invasive the stuff they collect is!

I find it difficult to dispute stuff off of it too :/

My suggestion is to use the BCP almost entirely (minimize use of the other cards for now) for the next 3 months if possible, then request the CLI.

The key is to have many swipes. if you buy a $1 water bottle, use the card instead of cash. (you get the scoop).

if you can also pay down your citi 60% to help improve your score.

I normally spend an average of 3k-5K a month on my card.

I let the balance report and pay in full before next staement.

My focus right from the onset was the 100K target on the card, since BOA will not give me just $100 CLI to achive the 100K limit.

I was using only the card for everthing I need, expect travel expenses that I use the Plat.

Now that I got what I needed, I will relax a bit and spend more on the BOA and Plat.

As @omgitsMatt has noted, they most likely know your income. So if you are asked to submit bank statements just do it.

By the way, if you don't submit the bank statements, nothing will happen, only the CLI will not be granted.

The checking and savings SUB offer are stress free and straithfoward.

The checking only require you to do direct deposit for like 3 or 4 times.
The savings if you have the cash - just deposit the amonut for like 3 months.

By the way, you will pay taxes on those SUB . lol

I think like 10% or so.

Also, I burn AMEX about 13 years ago- so maybe guilty conscience- I try to do business with them too whenever I can.

So it is a win-win situation.
