Back in with AmEx! Delta approval!

I almost can't believe it. I burned AmEx in 2017 for 6k, I keep getting emails to get the Optima card after paying in full or settling and having that be considered in future apps. I never did it. Those accounts are long off my credit report now.

I fly Delta frequently, so I was really bummed about not being able to get back in with AmEx. But I kept doing the pre-approval tool about once a month and always got the "Previous cancelled accounts" reason for denial.

Imagine my surprise yesterday when it says APPROVED!

Got the Delta Gold. Elevated sign up bonus of 80k miles.

Wow! I got a $1k limit but I don't care. This is a complete surprise.

do you know what they pulled and what APR?

wonder if its cause it is cobranded?

my situation is similar except it happened in 2015 or 2016 I think. hmm I'm going to go try it out because both Exp and CK keep hounding me about "outstanding approval" for ALL THE AMEX CARDS lol... but maybe because Delta is cobranded?

I don't think it had anything to do with co branded. The Delta card was the only one I tried pre-qualifying for in the past and I always got the "cancelled previous accounts" message.

They pulled EX and TU, not sure on the APR.

I agree! Which is fine by me. When I logged into AmEx, it had all my cancelled accounts on there still. But I do see my "Membership since" is back to the original year.

Delta was the card I wanted but of course this opens the door to the rest of cards from AmEx down the line.

Congrats! I got back in with AmEx last year after BK7 in 2009. I got the BCP and Platinum within a few weeks of eachother after years of trying for a Delta Gold and always getting the denial for negative prior relationship. My BCP also has the $1k limit. I just hit my year anniversary and the $1k will not move. Each CLI has been denied. First was for low credit score as my score dropped as I got the BCP, Plat, and CSR within week of eachother. Score has rebounded and then they said CLI denied due to activity on other revolving accounts (but my accounts that do have balances are going down).

I love my BCP and Platinum and have gotten alot of value out of them. But I tend to just use the Plat more now because they haven't denied a charge yet; even ones that are higher than my normal spend.

My spouse got the Delta Gold in December 2024 as we wanted to SkyMiles for travel this year. They got $10k SL and we have done the 90 day CLI and are now up to $40k. Yet, we never keep the balance over $1k so I am expecting them to drop that limit if we don't use it from time to time.

Wow, thanks for those data points! That's interesting you got back in with a 1k limit too. I'll see what AmEx thinks of me at the 60 day mark. It would suck if the limit just never moved. But I understand I burned AmEx previously.

Planning to run a good portion of my spending through this card, and hopefully get other AmEx cards down the line. So a bigger limit would be nice after 3-6 months.

Congratulations. I miss having AMEX. I had the Platinum, Delta Gold, and Hilton Aspire when I filed Chapter 7 BK. All were $0 balance but still closed when I filed. It discharged last March 2024 and I've already marked April 2029 on my Google Calendar as I've read they won't approve you until five years post BK even if you didn't burn them. I loved the Platinum card especially because you got Centurion Lounge access in airports.

Congrats on getting back in. You'll need to wait 91 days to request a CLI (the button will be greyed out before then). Sometimes they'll not approve one the first time you request if it was a borderline approval, but many have gotten 3x CLIs. I have a BK on my file (didn't burn Amex) and took me 2yrs after getting approved before they'd give me a CLI.

Congrats, OP! That is huge!!

I have decided I'm not even going to poke that bear until the BK drops off (discharged 2/2019). I burned them for a few thousand or so but have hopes for a future relationship.
