PayPal MC approval 5k!!!!! Fico Score low 600’s.

Hi everyone!

I had to share this with someone. 2 years ago me and my family about lost everything and due to that I let my credit cards go and was 30 days late on my truck payment. Since then we have been blessed and things worked out. Since about June 24, I started trying to repair my credit best I could. My scores were in the 500's and I was able to open a Discover secured card and graduated to an unsecured Discover in February this year. I also was able to get a Capital One Savor card with a 1500.00 CL in Nov. Well, 2 months later I went to use my cap one and it said declined. I pulled the app up and the card was not listed. Long story short, it was reported the card was opened fraudulently. Contacted CB and Cap One, nothing could be done. I reapplied and it gave me a 500 CL. I was defeated. I had been paying the balances off and carry a very low balance on them. I have continued to take care of some of my past collections by settling with a few debt collectors and have done very well managing my finances. I got my Fico up to 640 in Feb and had to buy a new truck. We needed to refinance my wife's car she bought a year ago to get a really good interest rate as well. With that happening it dropped my score as you would think. It has trended low 600's with it sitting at 618 currently. I have applied a few times for CLI, as well as, soft pulls to see if I was qualified for anything but I have been declined by Discover and Cap one. I understand why, but had kind of stalled the last 5 months or so with my scores just trending + or - a couple points of where it currently sits. My last missed payment was 2 years and my DTI ratio is about 30%. The last month or so in my PayPal app it kept popping up for me to check for approval with their MC. I finally did it tonight expecting a decline, but I was approved for a 5k limit! It made me tear up as goofy as that sounds. I am a medic and have been for 17 years and ruining my credit made me feels worthless. I know that's extreme, haha. My closest friend allows me to be an additional card member on his Amex plat for any type of big emergency that would arise God forbid and it has meant the world to me, but having my own card with what I consider a respectable above entry CL has just absolutely made my day!!!! I was so excited to tell him. I do not know how or why synchrony's approved me and better yet approved me for that CL, but I am beyond appreciative. I work 70-80 hrs a week and just felt here lately I was in a rut and just could not get a win. That being said, we have a home, lights, health and food and I am very thankful of that! This has just been a black mark on my should the past couple years and this was the kinda hurdle I was looking to clear to feel like I am finally over the biggest hill of this journey. Anyway, anyone who reads this thanks for your time and take care.

Congrats! Use it responsibly, always PIF the statement balance, and keep up the good work on your rebuild.

During my rebuild, Synchrony was my first $5K limit, on the Venmo card. Like you, my Fico 8 was low to mid 600s at the time. Over the next year, as my score rose through the 700s, I was able to get CLIs up to $15K. I rarely use the card anymore, so I've left it there and moved onto bigger and better things.

Every 4-5 months was the cadence on my CLIs. IIRC, it went 5, 10, 15K. YMMV, but Synch can definitely be good for rebuilding.

Ty so much, that's great to hear about how you credit really jumped after getting the Venmo card! I hope mine tracks like that as well! It took me until I was 42 to understand financial responsibility. As a medic you can work all the hours you want and I did, cash flowing in, well that's great until you wake up one morning and you can't continue to work like that and realize the self dug hole you dug yourself in. I was always an impulsive buyer. This last time when everything hit hard, it finally clicked and I had had enough. Since then im a new person regarding management of my finances!! Take care

@MedicWill Hi, Welcome to the forum! No worries about the duplicate post. I did it as well when I first started, lol.

Here's my 2 cents, CC approvals you could've posted a short post.Like...(PayPal CC approval 5k! Woo hoo!).

That's all you need in CC approvals.

Rebuilding Your Credit board you could've changed the title of the post and used your longer post there..

That way you'll get more post, possibly more kudos and move up in rank.

Oh and CONGRATS ON THE 5K!!!!

Congratulations on your new PayPal mc, enjoy it have also. Just use the card pay it off each month then in 6 or 7 months request increase it will grow. Also another nice thing about the PayPal mc is you can put your cashback into high intrest saving account with Synchrony bank through the PayPal app, before you know it you have some money in the saving account, nice way to grow your saving.
