It's my fault for not looking into this sooner. Apparently, I was double eligible for membership because my grandfather served in the Navy and my dad had been in the Army. I thought that the relation had to still be alive, and unfortunately both of them have passed. I had also been misled into thinking that my father was dishonorably discharged from the Army by some of my less than reliable family members. His sister in law (my aunt) would disparage him any chance she got, and even when I found his DD214 last year ( and found that his discharge was honorable), she wouldn't admit she was wrong.

Anyways, I gathered the documents I needed and started the online app tonight. I was fully expecting to have to upload a copy of my birth certificate as well as his DD214, but to my surprise I didn't have to upload anything. Not even my driver's license or passport for ID verification.

Excited to be in with NFCU since I am applying for my first mortgage a year from next month and will defintiely be applying with NFCU. I already played with the mortgage prequalifier and got prequalifed for $945,000, which I would never in a million years take on for a mortage . I feel like an entire new world of credit has opened up to me...

Heck yeah. It's never too late. I mean, I joined ages ago, but only recently decided to start using their benefits. Good luck on the mortgage process.
