Amex BCP CLI Story

My Fico 8 scores hover around 738, 740, 745. Six 90 day late payments on a Nelnet Loan will age off by next October. I applied for the BCP in March and was disappointed I was given an initial SL of 2,000. Having read here how Amex is generous with the CLIs I didn't despair. In June I requested a CLI to 6,000. Approved. September I requested a CLI to 18,000. Approved. I was planning on asking for CLI to 30,000 but something said request 35,000. Approved for 31,500 this morning. Merry Christmas!!

Taking a $2k card to $31,500 in 8 months is super impressive and honestly can't be done outside of Amex in 99% of cases. Nice job being persistent and hammering for those increases. You can still continue to grow your limit slowly over time without IV if that's something you're interested in. Here's a thread from 6 years ago that I started where I discuss the $5k/6mo approach.

I know I could have pushed beyond $35k in >$5k increments if I had been willing to go through the IV process, but it wasn't something I cared to do. With an already great limit at $35k, another $5k/6mo for a while until hitting my ceiling was absolutely fine. That ceiling ended up being $62,700.

Without knowing the strategy, I was at $35k and I requested $65k. Was immediately granted bump to $50k and then bank statements were requested (and given) and they bumped me to $60k.

So to be clear, you were given the bump to $50k without any IV, but were immediately prompted to provide it (which you did) to go higher?

Correct, immediate bump to $50k. Then immediate email prompt to share my banking statements/credentials. After one business day I was then bumped to $60k (still lower than my initial ask of $65). I assume if I didn't share, my limit would have stayed at $50k.

I asked for the high limit on my Delta Reserve because I have four trans-atlantic trips in 2026 with a family of four.

That would be my assumption as well, although I do wonder if you didn't share if there's a chance they'd take back any of the previous bump up.

No bads on my profile, but I have a similar history with Amex got the BCP with 10 months history and a 1k SL... 4 years later and a few cli. I am at 65k on that BCP.

AMEX has always been wild to me.
