U.S. Bank Shield $500 SL ( still happy)

After 28 months in the garden, I decided to give a 3rd attempt at U.S. Bank. Was denied in the past for new accounts and inquiries. Tried the pre-qual for the Shield and was pre-approved. Decided to spin the wheel and got the infamous $500 SL this past Saturday. I’m not mad bc I got approved and I know I can potentially recon or grow the card with responsible use. Rcv'd 21 month 0%APR for purchases and BTs, APR 20.9%.

DPs for the community: 0/24 across all bureaus for new accounts and inquiries. UTI: 9%, 2 cards with balances. AAoA for Ex: 5yrs, 2 months Eq: 6 yrs, 4 months TU: 3 yrs, 10 months. They pulled EX as I’m in NY. Nearly all FICO 8s were at or above 800 for EX. I'm thinking to call and recon. I'm willing to use an HP if it yields a bigger SL. But I'll be fine if it doesn't.

Congrats!

Definitely call and ask for a recon. It will cost you another HP but $500 is not really usable and with 0/24 and your scores you should definitely have gotten at least 10 times that...

Thank you! I'm willing to sacrifice another HP if I can get the limit increased. Will call after the holiday.

With your scores and current CLs, $500 is ridiculous. Good luck on the recon and hopefully you get closer to $10k+

Thank you. I called and couldn't connect in time with underwriting so I'm gonna call again. I hoped to do a balance transfer with the new account. Fingers crossed I can get the limit increased 😄

Thank you. An approval is an approval at the end of the day so I'm happy. I got denied twice in the last 5 years so 3rd times the charm 😄

Update:

5/27 called underwriting to request manual review for SL and have it increased

6/1 underwriting approved new CL of $15K

and there was no additional HP

Very pleased so far with US bank. Didn't expect to have SL changed with just a SP.

That's a huge jump.m to $15,000 Glad you reconned and didn't settle for $500.

What did you need to provide for recon? I'll keep that in mind if I get a small SL with US Bank.

Thank you. Honestly, I was surprised that it went smoothly.

I took the advice on this forum and called immediately after being approved. As it was the weekend(5/23), CSR said they would send it for manual review to underwriting. I didn't trust that it went for review and instead called underwriting on 5/27. First time, after a long wait on phone, the application specialist simply said my request has been sent for review and it would stay in cue. He wasn't interested in hearing me plea my case. I HUCA and this time got someone more open to hearing me out. The specialist looked over my credit report and said she would transfer me further but no guarantee they would adjust the limit. Spoke to someone higher up in underwriting and she just asked me to re-confirm my salary and other basic details. She then said they would continue the review. It stayed in cue for a few days but I was never asked to submit any further documentation. I assume they made the decision off of my profile and credit report. My gut tells me that if my original app went to pending rather than immediate approval, maybe I would have gotten a limit like this from the start. But YMMV.

Thank you! You said to call them and I have seen others recommend the same. I heeded that great advice. While I hadn't planned on doing a BT, the new CL is far more workable so I may do a small BT with the 0% APR for 21 months.

First of all congratulations on getting in with US Bank! Secondly, I see you mentioned a pre-qualify or pre approval, curious to know if your a current banking member or is there a dedicated link for that?

Thank you. In my case, I didn't have a previous relationship and had been denied twice before due to many recent accts and inquiries. This time I applied from my mobile phone. Went to their credit card website and then clicked the learn more link above the U.S. bank shield and it took me to a page that had a banner saying see if you are pre-approved. I unfroze my reports and submitted it. There was no HP and it said pre-approved, do you want to submit app? i accepted the pre-approval offer and the wheel spun again, then came back with approval.
