USAA - Surprise Approval

Hey all,

I created a profile, by phone, with USAA maybe 4 or 5 years ago using my dad's veteran info. I say profile because I had no interest in a banking relationship with them, only in checking homeowner & auto insurance rates. I've checked those rates a couple of times & they can't come close to beating my current premiums. So, that's the extent of my dealings with USAA...essentially they have my info on file & nothing else.

Since creating my profile with them, I have received occasional emails regarding their various products. However, in the last 2-3 months they have really ramped up the # of snail mail & emails encouraging me to apply for one of their credit cards. I'm talking 2-3 mailers/emails per week. I thought this was unusual as I've always read/heard that USAA is fairly conservative & is relationship oriented.

Anyway, I finally decided to try the pre-approval tool on their website & it came back showing pre-approved on multiple cards. No credit limit is indicated until you complete the application. I pulled the trigger on their newest product, the Eagle Adapt VS, as it had the best perks IMO. I got an instant approval for $20k. I was shocked but very happy with the SL.

Congrats on the card and the great SL. I hear ya on the products, I only have my CC with them due to age and because they don't allow PC.

However, on the insurance front, I know I'm paying more than I could probably get elsewhere, but with relatively new drivers in the house and the minor fender benders they've been having the last couple of years, I have not had any issue with getting repairs paid for and covered. I think on the third incident, they bumped my rate, but the first two didn't affect anything.

Congratulations 🎉 🎉 🎉 on your USAA card. Wonderful SL. Event though they require hard pulls for increases I have found them to be generous when you ask for one so if you ever want your limit to grow they are good to grow with. Woo hoo!!!
