App question - How much do you spend per month?

It's been a long time since I've apped for a card online. Do you have to answer the question - how much do you spend using credit cards per month? It doesn't have an * next to it. And does the answer matter?

Edit - also - How often do you carry a balance on business and personal credit cards?

Do these questions matter when it comes to the credit limit that will be given?

I don't think you have to answer it if it's not required. Though I don't think I've seen any app that asks that; the only one I've see ask that question is the cap1 CLI request form, and even that one is optional.

Right now I'm carrying some balances because of holidays and some unexpected life events, unfortunately.

And I doubt they matter much, if at all. My opinion is that they ask those questions as a qualitative kind of thing to compile data and tweak their algorithms.
