NASA CC declined, not advised to apply for more

I called CS to ask about the $5 membership not being recieved correctly and the CS rep was a super nice guy and said I could apply for their products anyway, I was a already a member.

I asked him for advice on their products, which is more appropriate for someone in my situation and as a beginner with NASA, gave him an overview of my goals and my scores... he said "You would have no problem getting our 7% balance transfer card" ...

Not so. Called back and lending said had to write an explantory email to beg.

Oh well, life goes on.

Geeze Titanium, don't think any credit card is worth begging for even with exemplary rewards.... I mean the only situation where I begged was a prep school administration to allow my daughter attend their school.

I agree!!! thanks jim44. The lady obviously didn't say that, but pretty much implied I would need to "put everything I had" into it.

I know I should not have gotten attached to anything financial but seeing others approved with similar scores/situations for 7k+ lines (even with BKs, 100k in free credit, etc) and then the first super-happy CS rep telling me I was a shoe in... well after that little bit of a let down, the last thing I am going to do is "beg" haha. It's more like sayonara, NASA.

Idk I'd do the email. Why not? I know people don't want to beg but hey if they might give it up after u send an email, id butter them up for sure lol

May I ask what is your Experian score? NASA usually pulls Experian.

This is the first that i've heard of something like that.

No matter. If you feel the card will be useful for you simply tell them that in any form you see fit to word it in an email and fire it off to them if nothing else to test this new procedure for yourself.

I always try to think positive but have to admit this is a first. Not quite sure what to make of it.

Yeah, I was denied also. 704 Exp. They don't want to give me anything besides the accounts. Not a fan of them right now. Tried to recon still denied. Their loss! Haha.

This is actually a 'rarity' for me, since I'm usually not the recon type (I'm not one for 'begging' either) but if you can do it in an e-mail, that actually seems pretty painless. Wait until you're nice and relaxed - for me, before bedtime - and sit down with the computer and 'bang out' a quick but polite message explaining how you plan to use the account, and how you're a good match for NASA.

It will only take a couple of minutes, and I suspect it will be effective or else the CSR wouldn't have suggested it.

(Added 'plus' - even if it doesn't work out, you don't have to hear 'no' over the phone...)

Why not do it... seems pretty painless .. only a few nice sentences in an email and see how that goes

Looking back it was 670 Exp Fico 8 that day. Pretty sure Bankcard 8 score was 690.

Payment history: good, Amount of Debt: Fair (32% util), Length of History: Good, Amt of New Credit: Poor, Credit Mix: Exceptional. Risk rate 13%

- Yes, that is kind of what I am sensing. I guess I'll find out what they specifically didn't like about my file in the denial letter. I do have a feeling its not something I can "fix".

- Thanks for your nudge. I'm gonna let it sit for a few (I have 30 days from original app), and see how I feel about it once I'm detached. CSR also mentioned they would likely need income verifcation (not just words, documentation to backup why I have any blemishes). They had already wanted ID and proof of Address and a bunch of other stuff which I scanned and sent, geez. I have things coming and going from the report this month which may change things, to what degree I'm not sure... so going to pay down a few things, as planned, and see how that all fares. Also, like to see the decline letter and their specific reasons, to at least know what I am countering with. When the denial letter comes, I'll post the info for others so they can get a clue as to what NASA looks for.

I did get Penfed account and 1600 Visa the day before I app'd NASA (another 1600 card isn't really what I was going for, long term picture, but at least something). FYI Penfed did deny a PLOC with --
Past or present delinquent account(s).
Insufficient installment payment history.
Length of time accounts have been established.

... sure, I have some delinquents from 2014 (none since), but the other two I was not expecting. These two CU's had very different rejections than what I usually get.

Congratulations on your new PenFed card. I love PenFed! Good luck with whatever you decide to do with NASA. I think I was just lucky when I applied. My Experian account looked good at the time.

congrats on penfed, i love penfed they are very nice and their interface is easier to deal with. I have a share with nasa and always declined for credit products. i would have to deal with that website more frequently yet I still one day want a card lol.
