So I've had this card for 8 months or so, started with a $1400 limit, but after a few months they dropped my limit to $1050, due to my credit score drop from all the other cards I applied for. That really ticked me off, but whatever, so I tried a CLI a while ago, denied due to credit score, well I just tried again, now that my Fico scores are in the 680 range. Denied AGAIN, I have a zero balance on this stupid card and have never maxxed it out, always made payments BEFORE they were due, and then paid it off. WHAT ON EARTH DOES DISCOVER WANT FROM ME? I'm so ticked off I feel like closing the card, I mean, a $1050 limit really is not doing me any favors....my Amex is higher than that, and every other card I have......

Discover can be very good to you. But you need patience and some history with them. Then they will grow and once you scores are above 760 they can grow a lot more.

Just because you applied to do different cards, isn't a reason they would slash your credit limit... You probably have used over 50% on some of your other cards and they are getting nervous.

You should be glad you even have the card....a score typically has to be above 700, since Discover is seen as a non subprime card...

For the life of it, it hasn't seen an increase except during the gravy train that brought it up to $3k where it has remained till date. The annoying part is when I be seeing folks getting $6k increases and all that good good but im here hoping for a $500 love from them that never seems to come.
I got this card 13 months ago. I have not seen a CLI either and have asked. They started me at 12,500 and since it is interest free, I have only made minimum payments. Soon the interest will start and I will have to pay it. Ugh. They rejected my 3 CLI requests no hard pull. I need to learn the CLI secret.

Well I started with Discover about a year and a half ago they approved me for $750 at the start then almost every three months I ask for a CLI without pulling my credit report and they keep raising it so far my credit limit with them is $14,250. Also asked for a lower APR and they lowered it by like 2%. Anyway long story short use the card but no more then $300 I have my phone bill and Netflix on this card for automatic payments and never had a higher balance then $800 and they never denied my CLI. Good Luck.
P.S. When they ask you about income say like $70,000 or something.

Looking at it from the issuer's perspective, I'd have to think a couple things are important. First, income, while relatively less important in approval for a card, becomes more important in terms of ability to pay. And these guys do want to make sure they get paid. Second, have you used the CL you have "substantially"? I mean, an account where you run it up close to the limit, then pay off, perhaps several times is one more compelling for a CLI than one where you don't use it or just charge a few insignificant things. These guys are also looking at getting something back on the CL they do commit to. As far as personal history, I don't have much to contribute. I've had a Discover It for quite a few years, my CL is $8K and I honestly can't recall whether I started lower and got it raised or started right there. I do know I got a call from them a few years ago trying to get me to use it more. Good luck.

I basically had it up to 12500 in the first month and now just do the minimum since interest free. I was considering saying something like, I plan to pay it off when Interest free ends and not use it again (obv. In a nicer way) . If you want to increase my limit then you will get some money off this thing bc not likely to pay off more than 12500 at once.

@Anonymous wrote:

Good luck.

This makes perfect sense. Except when it comes to Discover. First, my latest CLI put my limit at over 50% of my annual income. Second, I hardly spend any money on the card and my last two CLIs were $5000 and $4500. With Discover you can throw out all the theories.
