American Express. Am I approved?

So my gardening is going to officially start June 1st. I decided I had been getting approvals on other stuff I would do one final card application for an AMEX. They are a company I really wanted to get in with.

So I went ahead and took the hard pull today and applied for the American Express Everyday card. I got the 14 day message, which i felt was an auto denial. I have never held an american express card or been an authorized user on an Amex. I also know my Experian score is only 610. But I have seen approvals with them at the 606-609 range.

Long story short, I called the application status phone number and spoke with a nice fella that said everything looks good on his end, that they needed to verify it was actually me that applied online for the card. He placed me on hold, when he came back he said that being the weekend they were not there and able to verify, with it being memorial day on Monday. He gave me a direct phone number to call on Tuesday morning to verify it was infact me who applied. He then proceeded to tell me that once it was verified that it was me I should receive my card in 24 - 48 hours.

Being the super pessimistic person I am, I still have my doubts and feel that a big fat no will be received. After I did that hard pull, I went ahead and closed my Surge Card. IT was going to hit the AF next month to the tune of $96 plus $10 per month.

Well here is hoping for an approval...once you call Tuesday they should be able to give you a decision there...good luck and rooting for you!

You can find out for sure by going to https://www262.americanexpress.com/eaol/welcome.do

Or, google American Express Application Status if you don't want to trust a link that asks for your SSN from a stranger on the internet. (I wouldn't.)

It will show you the date you applied, what card you applied for, the current status (Approved,Denied, Pending), and the next step.

I appreciate the props for sure guys, I actually did check the status page earlier, and it currently says pending. Hopefully Tuesday will be good news

Well the anticipation is killing me lol.. as I set here and research, I found that Amex does not use the experian fico 08 scores. So that maybe an even better thing for me, depending on which model they use.

EX Score 3 = 632

So with him giving me the positive information hopefully after verification Tuesday I can finally be the proud owner of an AMEX. If no dice, then no harm no foul as I plan to garden what I have for the next 12-24 months with or without AMEX starting Tuesday.

Worst case I reapply in a year or two with much better scores

I'm in the exact same boat as you.... I talked to a rep who acted like he knew something positive but didn't say... he said that it looked like I needed to verify but that no one was there.. (same message you got)... Mine was specifically because I had applied for Delta Amex on the 24th and he said any app within 5 days on revolving will result in a hold until end of five days to watch out for "fraudsters"... I dunno... If I get declined, I will be fine with it since I just got the Delta... but I'm rooting for us both!

PS - My card came in the mail and showed my approval and said they pulled my Experian.. and gave my FICO08 score of 662.

Hi I just joined the Forum and I got approved just a few minutes ago for the AMEX BCE @ $1,000.

I am honestly thinikng it is hard inquires. I have only 2 on my credit report. As of now

TU 636 Exp 633 Equifax 656 so I am super stoked. My goal is to get to 750 in the next year.

I wanted to thank you guys for your imput and courage to at least try.

I am building my credit as well

I have a

Capital one Platinum $1000

Capital one quick silver $500

Education Credit union $500

and now ANEX BCE $1000.00

Congratulations man, unfortunately I didnt bode as well, I called and did the verify thing this morning. They did deny my applications.

REASON: Credit score too low.

I figured that is how it was going to turn out, however, I will wait until I get out of the garden and reapply in June of 2017. My scores should be a lot more solid by then as well.

I wonder if I should call and recon and have amex do another pull? My experian was 610 when they pulled, but I just got an update from cct that my experian just went up to 640 yesterday?

I believe if you are denied an Amex card they will instantly deny you for any other apps in the following 30 days. Maybe wait a month?

Yeah that is what I figured would be the best approach as well. I did have an increase from 610 to 640 so im not too far off from trying again. Hopefully in the next year or so I will be ready.
