Tempted to app for discover.

For some reason I really want a discover card. I've tried apping for them a few times all with no goes. It's always a different reason. Either accounts are too new, past charge offs (2 cap ones) and a 90 day late, loan amounts paid to loan ratio for mortgage, or the best one out of all of them low credit line available because at the time I had a 300 dollar secure card. So I know my newest account is 3 months old and oldest opened credit card is a year old which they would still deny me for age of accounts. Has anyone been able to get in with discover with negatives still reporting?

I did 3 years ago. At the time I had several 30 day lates on a paid car loan from 2010 (Santander issue). I can't remember my fico score at that time, but I want to say it was around 670.

My scores are a little higher, I think I more less posted to be talked out of it as opposed to wasting a HI

Of course I tried it. Just a range on the prequal. I've wasted about 6 pulls with discover and I know they're not letting me in any time soon

If I were you I wouldn't apply with them again for some time. You've already been denied multiple times and not enough has changed with your profile to increase the odds of a different decision being yielded if I'm being honest.

I have a 90 day late and a 120 day late one 2 different accounts and I was approved for Discover about 3 weeks ago, but I also have an AAoA of 7-8 years with my oldest account being 16 years... and I only had 1 inquiry and no accounts opened in the last 15 months. So, they definitely were able to overlook my baddies as everything else was pretty solid.

I think your best bet is to age you file for at least another 6 months but preferably a year without applying for anything (or much) else. With your AAoA growing a year and no new inquiries along with past inquiries falling off I would imagine your chances will be much greater. Your score will probably be 40-50 points higher too which of course is indicative of better chances of approval.

I agree with brutalbodyshots u should wait 6 mos to a year before u apply for discover. I applied for amex a year ago and was denied; i waited a year with pretty much no inquiries and my scores had all increased over that time so when I reapplied for amex I was approved. So again wait 6mo to ayear with no inquiries and you should be Gold.

I'm not too worried about it, can take it or leave it honestly. I have plenty of other cards that do work better for my spending habits and nice limits from Chase, Bofa, Amex, us bank and what not. It's just more of a I can't have it so I want it more

I applied few months and was denied due to 2 couple collections. I didn't wasn't to take another chance so I just applied for their secured version and let it unsecure over time.

I'm not interested in having anymore secured cards when I have cards with higher limits and a Chase siggy. To take on a secured card it would be a step back for me

For the time being it's a completely on the back burner. Harder to stay away from the app and website than I thought. But hey if I've gone this long without discover i probably don't need it

Just wait a little longer until your profile inproves (lates age, open accounts age) Unless you really NEED the card hold off for a better offer in apr and CL.

I agree with you about not wanting to get a secured card at this stage. But, since you have been denied a few times and there is always a range instead of a firm APR, I'd probably just sit back and let your other cards age. I had some charge-offs that were almost five years old at the time that I applied. Miraculously, I was approved, but with a higher APR. Now my hubby, who actually had a bk d/c in July, 2014, attempted 3 times and on the 4th app, he got approved ($4K). He had received a mailer with a firm APR and also had the same firm APR on their preapproval website.

It will happen eventually, Andy. You've got a very nice card with your Chase Siggy and others in your wallet. Just hang in there and let what you have age a little longer. Good luck to you down the road!

Discover approved my app with one collection reporting on EQ (three in total across all bureaus) 715 score with 14% UTIL and no new accounts. 1.5k SL, only pulled EQ.

Here is my experience with Discover, I had BK 7 discharged 6/29/2016 and on July 6th last week I was approved for a Discover Card SL $1250 and I never had a Discover Card before.

Seems that they are more BK friendly, if you didn't burn them more so than baddie friendly

I appd Discover twice over 6 months, both times denied (Feb 2015 & Aug 2015). I figured I wouldn't bother again. But I did notice a few month's after the last decline, they kept soft pulling my EQ report like every other day and I would receive an offer to apply at least three times a week in the mail. I'm not kidding you. Almost daily these Discover offers would be in my mailbox. So finally on Monday after recently being approved for Citi Prestige and Citi Costco, I went to their prequal webpage. The same thing showed up as the previous two times I applied and was declined. It showed an APR range. I was about to give up, but than decided to use the latest "invitation number" I'd received in the newest Discover letter. Instantly approved with 6500.CL and 15.9% APR, which was actually 2 points lower than the range it had just given me on the prequal webpage. So I'd say wait until they start sending you offers repeatedly in the mail. Good luck !!!!

Hard not to be tempted to app for discover. I won't get any offers in the mail since I've opted out of mailers since I move around for work a lot. Cold apping won't do anything for me anytime soon
