US Bank pre-qualified offer but....

Today I received the first pre-qualified offer from US Bank but unfortunately not for the card I would like to have. The offer is for the Flex Perks + Visa Signature .. has anybody ever tried to send the offer back with the comment "would love to accept if it can be done for US Bank Cash + instead of Flex Perks +" ? I know I could call and app for US Bank Cash+ directly but hate their habit of all the sudden approve lower tier cards. If I had an offer code for Cash+ I would definitely hit the submit button online. With an offer code I think US Bank does allow to app online for Cash+.

Any experience so far?

You cannot app for cash+ online, but can do over the phone. I bank with them, but don't have any of there credit product. I don't see an apply button during my online banking so in branch or over the phone app. Have got the same invitiation as you, but doesn't really interest me in the slightest.

I take that back and didn't read your comment fully as still morning... It is possible I guess if you get an offer code for a cash+, but not sure I have read or seen anything about this... I would be interested to hear if anyone has gotten one and able to apply online this way.

I'd be worried they'd misread/not read and just put your application through for the Flex Perks card, so I'd lean towards calling and actually speaking with someone. But I'm super cynical after a disastrous history of bad customer service.

Received an offer from US Bank and took it into a Branch. Saw a Personal Banking Rep who put the offer aside and submitted it through her portal with her banker ID#. It took two days but received an approval for the US Bank Cash+ Visa Signature starting at $9.5K with 13.9% Apr purchases. One year later I did a telephone CLI (used number on back of card) and was approved (no HP or SP). Note, I was a US Bank customer of two months when I did it.

US Bank never sent me an offer, but a few months ago when I put my info into their online pre-qualifier this card came up. Before that it was always the Contour (or whatever it's called) pre-paid card. Since I already had Cash+ I went ahead and applied for Kroger and got instant approval. I don't know if their pre-approvals are even worth the paper they're written on though.

I understand your reluctance due to the high number of reports of getting different terms or lower tier card altogether. Interestingly, every time I've applied for a card with US Bank, it always gave specific terms and I had to either accept or decline them.

Thanks guys for your responses. I am now hesitating to do a test and mail back the offer form by clearly crossing out Perks+ and handwite Cash+ over it and also clearly cross out the card image and write "please process only if it can be done for CASH+" or so... I am too curious how such a mission would end...

... afraid this could end up this way. Since I will be flying to Asia today for a month I have time to decide what to do....try phone app or leave it and wait for an offer of Cash+ to accept. The only card I would probably accept is their U.S. Bank FlexPerks® Travel Rewards American Express® Card only to get in with US Bank and then try to PC later on to Cash + .. I guess it is just not time for US Bank cards for me as their offers do not get me tempted yet.

I PC to Cash+ after one year from FlexPerks select with a five minute call. Some have PC in less time. Good Luck!

I would not say zero but percentage wise low. They can't help but see it on the envelope. So his chances higher than normal. However low.

I always saw it as a not so subtle "Come back when you got two nickels to rub together."

I have to laugh at it because I have 600,000 nickels to rub togethers. I think I have just about every major lenders cards. (BofA, Citi, Amex, Disc, FNBO, Barclay, Elan - their sister, etc., etc.) I have a 714 FICO score and they won't prequal me for anything but a Contour card?? I think that in some ways they are the strictest credit card company! Maybe I just have to wait for the Elan card to age, or maybe they have an agreement with their 1600 partner banks they won't solicit or offer you anything if you have an Elan card?

Who knows. They won't offer me a glass of water in a hurricane either. I'm not worried about it

A suggestion if you are near a US Bank Branch is go in and see a Personal Banker. Since I have read US Bank can be all over the place on pre-quals and issuing the lower tier cards, I wanted a Personal Banker to support my app. Have used the US Bank Personal Banker for every product I wanted rather than by telephone, online or chat. Success rate is 100%. Got a US Bank Premier Plus Line of Credit (comes with a US Bank Platinum Credit Card with best Apr rate), two US Bank Reserve Lines of Credit, US Bank Cash+ Visa Signature (NPSL) and an US Bank Affinity Visa Signature (NPSL). Also set up checking, savings and other investment vehicles over a one year time frame. Got the best interest rates and Aprs. I mention all this as prequals had me rated for higher Aprs and the banker called the different credit centers and discussed my case. In my mind, it made a difference. At least it is food for thought should you get hungry.

Yes, then the personal approach would not be realistic.

That's too bad. I was going to +1 it but I guess have to qualify it.

If you have a US Bank branch nearby, go into the branch to talk credit cards. The tellers are able to handle your app and answer questions.

Writing any message on the envelope... the problem with that is, the mail room would discard the envelope as soon as it goes through the sorter and whatever machine de-envelopes the contents.
