Have you checked to see if you are pre-qualified for any of their cards on their website? 8 months is long time and you should definately try again. Are you close to any Chase Branch at all?

I’ve never been approved for Chase before. Reasons given: income too low (have a better job now), score too low (was low 600s, last app was 700, now 730), too few accounts (2 cards w/18 mo history, 1 with 8 mo, also 2 store cards w/from 2-10yr history), and most recently (8 mo ago) “not paid enough on accounts”. AAoA currently 3y5mo (was around 3yr @ last app)

I asked which accounts and the guy couldn’t tell me which (my credit cards were only at 15% balance at the time) so it sounded like it was the student loans (have not paid towards yet, though I am in good standing due to Pay As You Earn). He couldn’t tell me for sure. I am making more money now and my balance is at 0 now.

Any tips to get approved? PS I am 3/24 so definitely this is not a problem. 2 of them will drop off in 2/17. Would opening up checking with them help?

Hello, if you don't mind sharing what card(s) did you try applying for? Some of the Chase cards have a minimum $5,000 limit. I would try for the Southwest Airlines Visa card, they offer limits on that card below $5,000 and the sign up bonus is still generous. If you get the 7-10 message after applying for that card give the reconsideration line a call. IMO unless you are depositng over $250k into said checking account it will not make alot of difference. Best of luck, update us if you were able to get approved.

I applied for IHG and the United Mileage Plus cards, couple times in past 5 years.

I've never gotten any love on the pre-qualified site, it always says no offers available. If it says that is it even worth applying? Right now it doesn't seem like it will be likely to me but maybe people here know otherwise?

I am working outside the US and won't be there basically until end of April. I will be in San Diego for a couple hours end of February but I'm not sure if I will have time off that day to go ashore. Fingers crossed. But I understood it might be possible at least to open an account online, I've done that before with other banks to get bonuses. I will have $10k in savings available in a couple months (def before I get to San Diego) as long as job keeps working out ok (the management company is a little crazy- in a good situation now but all bets are off if I'm transferred...)

I might try SW visa, it hasn't been useful to me in the past (I don't travel in North American much and used to be good at getting UA vouchers to cover any flights) but if it will get me in the door I don't mind to have a stash. Especially as since I'm a rogue agent these days as far as loyalty programs go after so many of them slapped $ requirements on there. I had read that people also got approved with low limites for United MP and IHG so that's why I'm dubious about approval for SW...but who knows?? Honestly I will try anything with Chase right now as long as I can get approved.

Thanks for your replies everyone.

I have gotten approved for 4 cards from Chase, and I have never been "prequalified for anything" so you should be fine. I would try for the SW card there is one that has a lower annual fee of $69 but there is foreign transaction fees on that and it sounds like you are overseas most of the time. The annual fee for me is worth it, but if you don't plan on ever flying stateside I would look at the Chase Freedom. Best of luck!

Hi there,

Remember me? The guy who got approved for all 5 Chase cards (Freedom, Slate, Amazon, United and CSP) within days of each other.

I can tell you that, at that time (March 2016), I had an EQ of 721 (shocked..highest ever). So that definitely did help my cause. My EQ has of course since DROPPED hard, but it's ok. I'm growing it back. All the way up!

I still have all 5 @ the starting limits, but, it's more than what is necessary in my daily life. I enjoy Chase and they have been my #1 go to cards to pay for anything.

Everything usually is purchased thru a Chase card. I of course have put spend on all five of them since March. The two I use most are the CSP and United.

I don't think anyone will get approved for any Chase card with sub 700. I could be wrong, but in my case, it did help make the case for me. And frankly I don't need any more Chase (credit) cards.

Good luck on your Chase quest and I hope i works out in your favor.

Hey,

I forgot, I also applied for Chase freedom as well. It was twice, once before I got the Citi classic secured card (that PC'd to unsecured classic, then Double Cash with a POS $450 limit. But at least it's a better card now? Got me in the door for CC's anyway) and once 1 yr after the Capital One card (by the way that card was PC'd as well, it's now Quicksilver instead of the student journey. Can't figure out how to change it in signature).

Also if anyone has any advice on timing of this that would be great. Should I garden more? I like the idea of getting one of these, well, if it's possible, by the end of the year, want to hit at least one more bank bonus by then and use card to hit DD/spend requirements if I can.

Still not sure which is best card but it is sounding like it's easier to get SW vs United, is that correct? And how does Freedom play into that? I thought it was supposed to be a card for people with lesser card history but just discouraged by my rejections. Well, that's life, haha.

From what I have read and experienced, the Amazon Visa card isn't a super difficult one to get. I've seen a lot of people post that they got one with decent but not stellar credit scores. Granted, they got a fairly low starting limit, but it is a Chase card soit may be worth looking at.

Also just an update Chase no longer does $10k special considerations. I stopped by to see if I had any offers for the CSR and asked about that, the only preferred treatment is if you are a private client, which as I mentioed is above $250k.
