I'm a student in college with two cards currently:

Capital One Quicksilver - $750 CL

American Express BCE - $1,000 CL (fingers crossed 3x CLI in 2 weeks!)

My scores are in the 685-700 range and my oldest account is 8 months (CapOne). I have two HP on each bureau. I use the cards for all my spending and pay down to 1% util day before statement, and then PIF day after statement is cut.

I like the 5% rotating cards since I do a majority of my shopping at wholesale clubs (which are not covered by Amex).

I really like the Chase Freedom card, and it would be good to get in with Chase and start building a relationship, but the DISCOVER It looks like a much easier card to grow with, and it looks like If i got a Freedom at my year mark (this summer), I would get a tiny CL and it would be very difficult to move it, plus HPs.

I am pre-qualified for a regular Discover IT, and im sure i could get the student one either way. I would like to get the student card so I can rack in an extra $20 for the next 3 years for a 3.0 or higher GPA, but I feel that having a "student" card would restrict my CLI quite a bit. Ideas?

The biggest difference would be the income requirements.

If you don't make 20K/yr then go for the student. You can still get the IT rewards on it once you have it in hand and chat with them online. It will grow with time and it will continue to grow after you're done with school as well.
