CITI - CHASE App with 735 FICO

I started off three years ago with horrible credit with late payments, and collections from HSBC, BOA, and Chase. Thanks to MYFICO.... FFWD to 2017 I have had a FICO of 700+ (currently has been 730 and higher) with $90,000 in credit with Three AMEX, Discover, Jet Blue, and Barclays. All with $10,000+ CL's, clean report with a few inquiries and 16% credit used currently.

I really would like a Chase or CITI card. I have been going on their pre-approval sites here and there but have been getting "Sorry we could not find a card for you, but take a look at these offers below." Am I getting that because I had a collection from Citi - Chase years back? It has since fallen off credit reprt about a year or more ago.

You mention a Chase collection, did you pay that back? Chase does have a long memory. Same with Citi. Remember, it may fall off your reports but Chase and Citi still keep their own records.

No, never paid it back. If i were to call chase / citi give them my info, would they let me pay them back this many years after? That would eventually let me back in down the road. I don't want to be burned forever lol

I stiffed Citi for around $100k almost 8 years ago.
In fact it was still on two of my reports when they approved me for a Citi DC. Limit didn't budge for the first year. After that, increases have come every 6 months.

IMO if they forgave me, you'll be more than fine. Lol
I wouldn't worry about paying them anything. They've long written it off.

Well it's a ymmv type of thing. Some people have luck with burning a bank and some don't, you'll never know until apply. Keep in mind that just because you don't have any pre approval offers doesn't mean you can't be approved.

Oh wow 100K!! haha Mine was like 3k. Ok Well I will wait until more inq fall off my reports and my % goes to 5% or so before I apply. Thanks for the info everyone.

Also I never had a preapproval for Citi or Chase. They've approved me for every card I apped with them, 7 total.

I owe $150 in overdrafts from a Chase banking account from about 8 years ago. I wanted to get the Freedom so I called their 1-800 number. The CSR asked if I was interested in opening another bank account. I told her no. She replied with "we are not longer collecting on this debt". I didn't want to say too much because I did not want to say something wrong and I also did not want them to know I was interested in one of there products. But my vague inquires were met with the same answer, that they were no longer collecting on the debt. I was loking to pay it off to possible increase my odds of approval but It came off as though they didn't want the money. I know they have to be careful about they way they attempt to collect a debt, especaiily since it has passed the statue of limitations but my interactions with this CSR was really weird.

My thought, like eveyone elses is you never know until you apply. I never applied for the Freedom. I instead went the route of Quicksilver and BCE as I wasn't ready for the possibly of a denial.

I'd be leery in doing this. I've heard by paying an old collection they can put it back on your credit report as it's now recently been updated. If it ultimately came down to needing to pay to get back in, I'd get a lawyer to work out a deal on paper that the info stays off your reports for good.

Otherwise to start I'd just apply and give it a shot. Your stats are perfectly good to qualify under normal circumstances.
